jsarkis
At 35, I bought my Shelby, paid in full with cash. I love being fully out of any long term debt.
DubbsFaris
Yeah, figured this was some kid(no offense) who bought a GT500, and wanted to know if he was the youngest thread.... Umm, what do you consider your money? Ford financed? Job with your parents company? Inheritance at age 18? Lottery winner? Lots of ways to buy a car you know. Im not calling you out for being young mind you, we all were at some point, at 38, Im not a grandpa just yet, but what is the purpose of this topic exactly? That said, enjoy the car, they are a ton of fun at any age!!
Son of GT
Our youngest member/owner was 16 when he got his 500. Come to think about it, he doesn't post here anymore. I wonder if he still has the car? I hope he did not end up wrecking it or anything bad like that. Maybe he just got his first POA and decided that cars weren't that important anymore. springer
Dubbs, I second your thoughts! I was 33 when I purchased my first Shelby, a 1966 GT 350 in 1986.

You talking about me? I told you not to tell anybody about it!!!!!!! J/K I don't even own a GT500. In fact, I don't even have a driver's license, or even a learner's permit. Oh wait, I have to study that! Might get it sometime this week. Better start reading the NY DMV book right now! BTW there is going to be a GT500 in my future. I hope for it a whole lot. Maybe when I get older. We all just have to wait and see.

RACERX009
Whatever you need to say to make yourself feel better about waiting till mid life crisis hahaha.... I was 18 when I bought my first mustang gt fox body vert in 89 paid 17,500 !!! Brand new I worked for Sansone ford and bought it from his competion. When the owner of loman ford heard I worked for Sansone he gave me that price Island for had the same car for 21,000. All I had to do was drive my vert to work with Loman fords Paper plates on my car. After 2 days the general manager said ok funny what did you pay for it. He wasn't mad he knew the owner of Loman ford he got pay back for low balling price just to steal his customer. Back then again went on and nothing was montior like it is today. SVT NAJA
It would be best if you also owned the garage (and attached house) that your Shelby is parked in. Even in this economy, real estate is still a better investment (especially when you're young).

Actually I think he did wreck it - didn't total it, but he spun off a bridge or something and dinged up the front end pretty decent. He posted that thread a while back. Can't remember when it was. Maybe his driving priveleges got revoked. Bought my GT500 at 24yo.

BIKEBOY
Special ordered my '07 as a V.I.P. on Jan.01 2007. The car was built on Feb.16...one day after my b-day which I turned 46 on. My wife and I had sworn off any more new cars prior to the announcement of the GT500. But I had a chance to get the car without any ridiculous ADM, which significantly softened the blow! So, as I was approaching my 'mid-life crisis', I thought what the hell!!!! B) Funny story: When I first ordered my car I was thinking it would have been cool for FORD to have been able to use the SALEEN tagline: "Power In The Hands Of A Few!"..............................................'A Few" ........what a joke that turned out to be, eh?! dgstang
I have had 6 Mustangs since the age of 16, all of which I have paid for on my own in one way or another. The 70 (16 years old), 66 (17 years old), and 65 (21 yrs old) were all paid in cash, the 84 was co-signed for by my Dad when I was 18 and I made ALL the payments, the 69 CJ (32 yrs old) was paid in cash using a home equity loan, and the 09 Shelby GT500 Vert (40 yrs old) was half cash from the sale of the 65 (after owning for almost 20 years) and will be paid off this week when we refinance our house. Some might say mid-life crisis, but I just liked the look of the car and wanted to be an original owner of a Shelby.
DubbsFaris
Whatever you need to say to make yourself feel better about waiting till mid life crisis hahaha.... Well, I couldn't buy it BEFORE they built it...which is my point. You happen to be young when the cars hit the market...I happen to be midlife. Its not like Ford called me when I was 22 and asked if I wanted it built now or wait till later. I bought mine at 35 because they came out when I was 35...its not rocket science here. If you try to hold this car as some status symbol though, it will bring you disappointment in the end. There is always a better car out there, and a younger guy who could buy one. I live in San Antonio, which gets a lot of Mexican national visitors with more money then sense...and I was at the dealer when an asian couple bought 3 GT500s, had them all supersnaked and in for service....the third one was their spare car for their 8 year old daughter. Kid cant even reach the pedals, and they got her one anyway. (I can just see the EXACT same thread somewhere out in internet land on the Bugatti forum- How old were you when you bought your first Veyron?) Seriously, congrats on the GT500 though...its a great car and a ton of fun at any age! On that 16 year old- I remember EXACTLY what happened- he was driving in the rain with cruise control on and lost control when his car hydroplaned. Lesson learned on the whole cruise control thing I hope.
