New set of wheels for my 2011 GT500 SVT PP

If you want big and wider there is a option. It is the HRE Monoblok P40 wheel, that is what these are based off of. That was the wheel that was first uses on the RTR concept car. These come 19" and 20" and I know that HRE wheels are wide. But they come at a price 19"= $1200, 20"=$1500 each.

But I can also have these widen. I am thinking that I might try and have these powder coated gloss black. I am going to try and see if the ceter caps will fit.

Defintely think you should do the gloss black. The wheels look great they way they are...but would be even better all black.

Guys, keep in mind that the SVT PP wheels are FORGED, whereas the RTR wheels, attractive as they may be, are not forged. The RTR wheels are CAST wheels, are made somewhere in the Far East. I own an '08 Titanium Package Audi A4 with wheels that look look IDENTICAL (style is called VMR V710)to the RTR wheels. I purchased my wheels from a company by the name of Velocity Motoring(velocitymotoring.com). VMR is very popular with VW, Audi, and BMW owners because they offer great looking, quality cast wheels for a fraction of the price of the "real deals". There's absolutely nothing wrong with them , and I'm not knocking them in anyway(I run them on my car!), other than to say that the GT500 w/ SVT PP comes standard with forged wheels. If you're after the look, then by all means, but the RTR's do not hold a candle to the SVT PP wheels in terms of weight or construction, which is the whole point of the PP. Once again, not knockin! Just sayin...

And where do you guess the 2011 GT500 SVT PP wheels are made? My guess is Taiwan. That's were the 2010 GT500 19" wheels are made. Oh yea, the 2010 GT500 18" wheels are made in China.

No sir, I wasn't aware the 2010 18" or 19" wheels were made in China/Taiwan. I do know the 2010 19" wheels were forged. If you have it on good authority they were made in China/Taiwan, then I reckon I'll take your word for it. The main point of my post was just to remind the OP that the factory PP wheels are forged, whereas the RTR's are not. As a matter of fact, the 20" PP rear wheels are even lighter than the forged 19" 2010 GT500 wheels.

Anyway, I was just trying let a brother know that if he swaps out the PP wheels for the RTR wheels, that he will be increasing unsprung weight, which will quite possibly have a noticeably negative impact on the acceleration and handling of the vehicle. However, if looks are his main priority, then by all means, the RTR's are arguably the more attractive of the two wheels, and undoubtedly look fantastic on the MustangGT/GT500(hell, there's not much that design of wheel doesn't look good on...)

I think the fact of the matter is that choosing almost ANY replacement for the SVTPP wheels is going to incur a net weight penalty of at least SOME kind. Sure, the SVTPP includes some suspension and programming tweaks, but about 90% of the $3,500 cost (that doesn't end-up on Ford's bottom-line) would seem to have gone almost exclusively to wheels and tires.

And Snake Handler is likely correct. Apart from custom-milled one-offs and wheels made to appeal to a particular brand marquee (like Alcoa), the Far East is now as likely to be the manufacturing origin of even the highest quality items. They've become the world's manufacturing breadbasket, and that now includes the technology and machinery to produce the very best items - not just the cheapest.

Here's the rub with the Performance Package. Unless you intend on ONLY driving the car in conditions suitable to the F1G2 tires, SOME kind of wheel swap is going to be involved - and given that the wheels are specific to those tires and the tires are specific to the wheels, unless you're going to do some pretty serious mixing and matching, the result is going to almost invariably be 19's for those who want to retain as much handling as possible and 18's for those who'd be willing to trade a bit of handling for ride comfort. Although the SVTPP does improve the car's grip and handling throughout, it should be most apparent at the outside edges of the performance envelope - and if you're driving the GT500 purely for the sake of its performance maximum, you wouldn't deviate from the 19/20 F1G2 setup anyway.

So, as far as 19's are concerned, I really see 3 ways to go. First would be for those who want a custom look and the entire world is open to whatever look, price, and weight differences they're willing to incur. Second and third are those who want to remain faithful to the Shelby look by using the 19's from either the 2010 or 2011 GT500, or some kind of aftermarket alternative that most closely resembles the SVTPP wheels. No matter which of these groups a person belongs to, the change is going to impact wheel weight, so provided the difference among them isn't huge, a person may as well choose the wheel that best suits his particular taste - unless there happens to be a 19" aftermarket wheel with same weight as the SVTPP 20's - but then retaining as much of the SVTPP's performance characteristics would be the priority, much of which is going to be lost b virtue of moving away from the F1G2's anyway.

So, unless I happen to be thinking completely from left field, and though I'm the first to admit that this is my first high performance vehicle so my experience is very limited, I have to believe that once you decide to run the GT500 without the SVTPP wheels and tires, you might as well go with the 19's that make you happy, provided they're not made of cast iron or lead. No?

I own both sets. The 18s have Made in China and Ford molded in the spokes, and the 19"s have Made in Taiwan engraved in the inside rim.

Saw these at Classic Design Concepts during the Cruise, I think it is the same wheel. I am getting prices for my 08 GT500. I think they look good. May drive back to Detriot get a light bar and new wheels in the same trip!

They do seem to look terrific - and they're now my top choice. I only hope they can accept generic center caps so I can complete the masquerade when storing my SVTPP.wheels. In fact, the dealer is going to mount them for me before I take delivery.

On a related subject, does anybody know which Motocraft TPMS sensors are required? Ford Parts' VIN-specific parts search doesn't yet recognize 2011 GT500s.

Thanks!

I've never heard of this parts search by VIN. Can you provide a URL?
