FiaCobra
Man oh man, have I got a problem over here. Here's the quick story. Took the cousins crabbing the other day. Came home and popped the hatch on the mini van with the intent of getting the traps out later. Well, I forgot all about the traps until later that night. Got lazy and simply closed the hatch before heading to bed. Well, next morning I get up to take care of the truck when I discovered a raccoon was inside the truck! Apparently, I locked his ass inside for a few hours. Well, needless to say, you could imagine the amount of damage this 'coon did. Well, you probably couldn't imagine the damage....it was that bad. He did'nt rip or tear anything, he just pissed and shit ALL OVER THE PLACE. Took me 8 hours to clean the inside of the mini-van. I'm down to this: The most damage was to the 2 front seats. Apparently he thought of them as his personal toilet bowl for the evening. While the seat cushions look brand new (cloth seats), I simply cannot get rid of the piss smell. Right now I have the passenger side seat out and the seat bottom cushion separated from the seat foam. I'd like to start here. My idea is to soak the foam seat cushion and seat cover separately for 24 hrs, then wash the seat cover, let dry, and see if the smell is gone. My question to the masses is: What is a strong, yet safe product to use to get this stinky piss smell from the cover and cushion? I'm posting this in another forum as well because i'm desperate. Son of GT
Go to a pet store and buy the spray cleaner they have there for cleaning up after pet stains and such. That would be a good start. GOOD LUCK!
FiaCobra
You're the 2nd person to say that. Someone on another forum recommended a product called: "Natures Miracle". Looks like i'm off to Petco.
twobjshelbys
Google search for "Cat urine odor". There are hundreds of recommendations. Note: This has as much folklore around it as getting skunk smell out of a dog.

It worked on my sofa my ex cat kept peeing and $hitting on them/
mrfarmdog
Rip the seats out and replace with RECARO racing seats. At least that way you can feel like you are going fast Seriously though, sorry about the troubles. That truly sucks. I think everyone else is steering you in the right direction. FiaCobra
Hey, thanks for the advice. Well, I took the passenger seat out of the car today and completely broke it down. I purchased "Natures Miracle" and I soaked both the seat back, and seat bottom (covers and pads) All 4 pieces are in front of fans and a dehumidifier. I should know by tomorrow if the odor is gone. Next is a deep shampoo for those items in a big plastic bin and another dry in front of the fans. If all goes well with that seat, the drivers side will be next. The seats are pricey so i'm trying this route first. To be honest, I don't think the foam got much damage, if any. They did get a good soaking today so we'll have to see. Firekiller
Hi sorry to hear about your probs, another avenue you may want to take is to look in your local yellow pages and look for crime scene cleaning crews in your area. I know it sounds ridiculous but I am a firefighter and have seen the miracles these guys are able to perform. Believe me if they cant get it out or give you something to get it out it is a lost cause.

Second.......You must be related to regalt87...... http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/index.php?/topic/59233-holy-mother-of-god/ Dude, while I feel for the fella and his smelly encounter, it was nothing compared what I went through, and am currently going through! I'd take that dog shit on a wooden floor any day of the week over the tight confines of a carpeted/cloth seat mini van with a wild raccoon shitting and pissing all over the place !! jrzycobra
Well believe it or not, spray brake cleaner should do it. Test in an unconspicous area first of course. I found out about this from a Ford dealer parts guy when someone spilled a can of sardines on the rear cloth seat of my brand new '86 Mustang GT. Don't ask. It got rid of the smell and the stain. Frank S
He probably picked the seats for his business because that's where the butts left their, uh, marks. He wanted you to be sure to understand just whose seats those actually are. You do understand, right? New or different seats will be the eventual solution. After all your soaking and scrubbing and fanning you'll put the seats back together, all proud of the job you've done and the money you've saved, and the first, or second or hundredth time you get in the car after using it and leaving it closed overnight, that won't be your imagination playing tricks on you. It'll be the indelible Mark Of The Raccoon. You never can win. Wake up to reality. You've got it under your skin.

thewheelman
Give one of your local carpet cleaners a call. You'd be surprised what 240 degree water and some cleaning solution will get out...... On the other hand, I think the kerosene & match approach will be the only way to totally eliminate that odor.....
Matts
The cheapest way to get rid of the smell, is just to sit in the car for hours on end. Sooner or later you'll become used to the smell.

SGT/SC2873
wow, sorry to hear this happened but I am really surprised the this racoon did not tear the hell out of the trim and upholstery. They are quite mean and usually a "trapped" animal will go crazy trying to get out. My point, it could of been a lot worse....I think.

07shelbygt109
I had something like this happen once, but it was a fifth of Knob Creek instead of coon piss. I had to have the seats professionally shampooed 3 times at 4 week intervals. After the third time the smell finally went away. I would suggest finding a good detail shop and ask their opinion. Good Luck
