I am beginning my training to run my first full marathon, I will be running at Walt Disney world in Jan.... If you have any training tips or tricks they are much appreciated. V/R, James I use to curse at people and they would chase me with there car it got my sprint time down Sorry but I use to be a big runnner and always mixed in bicycling. But the major mistake, I made was a teen not wearing top of the line running sneakers ended up with knee pain and hip pain. Went to a ortho he told me to go home and bring your sneakers back with you. He took my sneakers and threw them in the garbage. Then gave a list of sneakers to use !!! also change the sole's of the sneaker for better support. The leaner you are less impact on your joints and make sure you warm up.Start slow Good luck
09 Red GT500
What is your level of experience when it comes to running or other endurance sports? That is good advice on the running shoes. Is there a running store near you that has shoe experts? If so, they can put you on a treadmill, watch you run, and help you get a better shoe. You will probably go thru several pairs of shoes leading up to the marathon. Listen to your body. It may tell you things you don't want to hear. But you should listen anyway. Be aware that you may not achieve your time goal. For my first marathon, all the training went well, but at about the 20 mile mark, the legs just didn't want to run anymore. So I walked it. A bit painfully. And while I was pissed that the legs wouldn't cooperate, I finished and I was ecstatic! Get a training plan and follow it. There are several good books out there for marathon training. The best ones will cover everything. Look for Hal Higdon, Jeff Galloway, as well as others. Good luck! 0201212
Thanks for the replys. Yes there is a shoe store close by that I have used with the shoe experts and treadmill. I always track the miles on my shoes and don't typically go over about 400 miles on a pair. I have been running for the past two years, many 5ks and a half marathon under my belt. For my first full marathon I just want to finish that is my goal. Would love to finish in under four hours but we will see. The farthest I have run so far is 18 miles with gas still in the tank but will be upping the miles in the next few months so I can see where my wall is so that I can be aware of it. Thanks again for the great advice any and all comments are welcome and appreciated.

I was 6'1 195 my best shape large frame from heavy weight lift and a lot of power lifting. So a really long distance would be a pain but one thing that helped was run till, I couldn't run anymore then have someone pick me up where ever. sherpa
i done many marathons, my first time, soooo fired up and excited. but year after year, the thrill is dying. there are sooo many thing going on in life u just don't have time to train and make that 2:30 and less time. however, although i don't do marathons now, running is still in my life style! one advice i can share is push hard but know ur limits! one year i landed on a pot hole early on (started at 5am so still dark) and twisted my ankle and from that moment on every step was pain and more pain (i can barely stand or walk). i just can't see myself calling for the ambulance pick up, sucked it up, dragged and limped it in. time was 6 something but to me it was my best one ever! i learned about myself that no matter how much pain, as long as u have the will, u can do it. sure this is not for everyone but i chose to push my body to the limit and i am glad i did. have a good 1. Don't think I will be trying for 2:30 or less on my first but that is a goal of mine in my life time. My goal is to finish with a secondary goal of completing in 3:59 or less, I think that this is possible with the amount of time I have to train. I started my training plan on Monday and will be training until Jan so I have plenty of time. From everything I have read about the course it is relatively flat with the only hills coming from the on and off ramps. Thanks again for all of the words of wisdom. On a side note I will be running with the Team In Training to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society.
