Melling oil pump

Recommended Posts

I hurt my motor recently, spun a rod bearing and lost a clutch at the same time and I'm in the process of having the short block rebuilt. While it was out I decided to upgrade the oil pump to the Melling HV with billet gears and go ahead and lock it this time, as fast as my car makes boost I don't think I'll miss the 10 or 15hp any where but on a dyno sheet anyway. Anyone have one installed on a 3V?

At your stage I'd go ahead and lock it out. You don't need the VCT with the KB and 4:10's anyway. What kind of power were you making with that setup ? What clutch ?

It was making 617 on a MD dyno at 18 psi on 93, never got a pull at 21psi. Ram HD 300/900.

Wanted the thicker housing on the Melling, they are about the same price and going to lock it out anyway. Still second guessing myself but it's done now.

How is the paint and body work going? Would like to see some numbers with the intake and intercooler installed.

^The paint/body work is half done. I demanded that I be able to take the car for the weekend, but that was almost a fruitless effort.

I got the Paxton supplied coolant tank installed and my old powder coated Moroso tank sold and shipped off. I also got the intercooler coil mounted up, but that's it so far.

The intake is also a serious PITA, because it won't clear the t-stat housing with the Paxton supplied housing spacer, so I'm going to have to cut and re-weld the aluminum housing, in order to delete the spacer. It's been a very frustrating week or so of modding for me!

Anyway, I'll post pics and dyno print outs as soon as I've got them man. Sorry to hear about your engine Jeff, but I'm certain that you'll have your beast running as bad as ever in no time. :shift:

Yeah, if anything ever went exactly as planned it really would not matter, because the world would surely come to an end the next day. Started out changing a hood and painting stripes and now I'm sitting here 2 months and 5 grand later, waiting on a short block with 4 grand worth of wheels and tires sitting in my kitchen with a unpainted hood on my car. Good luck and I hope it all turns out well.

Jeff
