spclmstngs
After 3 months of dealing with my Ford Dealer and Ford Racing I am finally taking the car in on Monday to have all of the stripes replaced and the hood scoop under Warranty. Once this is done I have thought about having a Body Shop take the car and clear over the stripes to keep them new and in good condition. Has anyone done this or heard of anyone with this same idea. I am really just happy all of our stripes are being replaced as well as the Hood Scoop Our hood scoop and stripes were awful and the west texas sun and heat were not helping them. If anyone has any suggestions for me to keep the new ones looking good and new just let me know.

JeffIsHereToo
I've been waiting two months for my stripes to come in, the dealer has the new grill and hood scoop but no stripes yet. Robert has posted that SA has plenty of stripes so there should be no issue. http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/index.php?/topic/59100-2007-shelby-gt-silver-stripes/page__view__findpost__p__1010476 I would call your dealer and personally call the warranty line to get an update and ensure they are on order. Again there should be no problem getting stripes if everything is done properly.

I suspect the vinyl will have slight softening, expansion and contraction depending on temperature. Not good under a hard clear. In all my stripe research I've never seen it raised as an option either pro or con. Anyone else have an opinion?

In all my stripe research I've never seen it raised as an option either pro or con. Anyone else have an opinion? Expansion and contraction is correct! DO NOT CLEAR COAT OVER VINYL! It will look great until a few cycles of cold/heat, then it will crack, buckle, and peel! Trust me on this, I've been through it before on another vehicle, painter swore up and down it would be fine, but soft and pliable vinyl doesn't mix with hard and tough clear coat! It ended up looking like "crackle" finish paint and unless that's the look you're going for, don't do it! They do make a special paint for the flexible body panels (front and rear fascia) but I really doubt you could use that on the stripes. When my stripes fail, they will be removed and then painted on - that's the more permanent solution, and the only one you can clear coat over! WildAzCat
When I had my stripes replaced I thought about clearing them. The company that striped the car said it's a bad idea for reasons already mentioned.

I've got to get my 2008 in and have the scoop replaced, but I'm scared to death to do it....warranty expires in February 2011... spclmstngs
Well we finally got the Shelby back on Thursday. Sewell Ford did the work but the sent it out to an outside person to put the stripes on. Then they could not find anyone that wanted to put the scoop on and rivet it to the hood. They had the car for almost 2 weeks and it was intense not having the car but it was well worth it. The car looks like new again and the stripes are just beautiful. I think if I would have done it all over again I would have talked to Rogers Ford in Midland. I will post up new pics as soon as I get back from California at the end of September. I think I pulled out in front of you onto 8th street as you were leaving Sewell...Do you have any idea if they got the pre drilled scoop or one without the holes pre drilled? I need to figure out which way to go...also, do you have any idea who they sent it out to to have the scoop installed?
shelbytexan
Good luck on having the scoop replaced. When i got the latest and greatest scoop installed, i noticed after leaving the dealer that the rivets were not installed evenly around the scoop. Some of the rivets were close or further apart than others. I took the car back to the dealer to have them replace the scoop again because of the poor install. The shop manager could tell that the rivets were installed improperly. I told them i wanted a new scoop annd they asked if they could fiberglass the scoop and repaint it. I started to demand a new scoop but decided to let them see if they could fix this one on account i figured they would make it worse. To my suprise they actually made the scoop look better than new because it had a much better shine than the original dull paint job from Shelby. Now i was ready to see if they could install it correctly. I stayed there to make sure the rivets were spaced correctly like the original scoop and they got this one correct. The scoop did not seam hard to install. I'm no mechanic but i do believe i could install this scoop myself if i took my time. Shelby finally made the scoop out of fiberglass like they should have from the beginning. After four scoops they finally did it right. Now if you can just get the dealer to do it right. Good-Luck, Kenneth.
spclmstngs
Auto Trim Design on 8th street put the stripes on and one of the body guys at the body shop at Sewell put the scoop and riveted it in. The scoop that I saw when it came in was just a scoop with no holes or even a center stripe. Also this scoop was Fiberglass and looked a HELL of a lot better than the one that was on the car. If you have any questions just PM me and I can tell you.
