breoland
I finally decided to go with the alcoa wheels and they are going to be sent out to be made wider. my plans are to go with a 255/35/20 nitto 555 for the fronts and on the newly made 11.5 wide wheel wrapped in a 305/35/20 nitto 555r drag radial. before I go with the order does anyone here see that this will not work? if the rears will be to tall...will the rears look way different in size then the fronts. Please let me all know what you think Thanks -B

breoland
I have, I just cant seem to find the tire that i like. I was hoping to go with the nitto 555r cause its a decent lasting drag radial that would be perfect for the type of driving that i do looks like its back to the drawing board

Going to all this expense of widening you wheels I do not understand why you want a 305 in the first place. Your car will not hook with a 305. It does not hook that well with my 335's but its much better. You need all the tire you can get on these cars! If that all the tire you want just do an 11" rim. There are several guys on the forum that are running 11's with 305's. Some that are running the narrower axle with the stock 10's as well. Just trying to help. I wanted to stay with the nitto brand tire, i dont think they make a 335 or a 315. I also did not want to trim any bump stops or take off the dust cover. I really like the alcoa wheel and i know for sure the 275 is not going to cut it and the next avilbe size in a drag radial is the 305/35/20. I have no problem sending the wheel out to have made wider and if I go with a 11.5 i have room down the road if I do want to go a little bigger. As of right now my car has a few mods for a gt500. it wont be for another year or so before i go whipple. SO if I can get the 305 nitto dr to work i would be happy. the height on them is 28.58 and was wondering how they will lokk with a 255/35 up front and if I am going to have any rubbing isses with a passenger in the back. I have the frpp handeling pack with bmr control arms and panhard. Thanks for all your help lee, with all my annoying emails:) I just want to get a set of alcoas with some decent traction, the stock wheels and tires i have now are just not doing it for me

Thats what this forum is for! Nitto tires are OK, but I am not sure if they deserve that much brand loyalty. There are easily 5 or 6 brands I would put infront of the Nitto. So you might consider looking elsewhere if you can not find the size you want in a Nitto. One thing you need to keep in mind when going to a 20" rim is you have less sidewall flex. This means they will not hook as well as your 18's for the same width tire. A 305 on an 18" will hook much better than a 305 on a 20" (but the 20's look and handle better for an equal height tire). Point is you need more rubber with a 20 for traction. If you are going to a aftermarket blower down the road then you WILL end up trimming the bracket and the dust boot in the future. My point is you might as well do it now. I am not sure if you can run a 11.5" rim with a 305. the 305's really need a 11". But with a 11" you loose the option of a wider tire down the road. The dust boot is a thin, pathetic little piece of useless plastic. And the bumpstop bracket is a really simple and small deal. By no means is it de-valuing or hacking up your car. You put some 335's or sticky 315's on a stock engine GT500 and you will leave a stoplight like a scalded ape! Next question would be how many miles do you drive your car? A Nitto drag radial will get you about 3000 miles and thats about it. I have a worn out set in my garage right now. I think they actually did not even make the 3000. breoland
The nitto 555r usually last a decent amount of time. had a set on my 04 cobra that lastedover 5000 miles before i even traded in the car with meat still on them. I think the 555r is a drag radial but not as soft compound as the bfg or micky tompsons and last longer but r not as good. the amount of driving i do is not as much being we have crappy winters up here in nyc Maybe i'll do the toyo setup with the 315. does anyone have the figures on that? what kind of drag radial is it? is it similar to the nitto 555r? There are a couple of guys on this forum that have done the Toyo's. You will find there responses on this forum (even this tread). Its a road race tire. Meaning you can actually turn a corner with it compared to the Nitto. Similar sticky compound to a drag radial. The tread pattern looks really cool too! Keep in mind when you put that new blower on your tire life will drastically decrease. I mean DRASTICALLY!!! Most competition tires do not do well in the cold weather. You might want to look for a performance street tire because of where you live. Race tires are the bomb in the summer, but when its cold things can get a little spooky. Its a different world when you throw that new blower on! I can not stress that enough!!
BoneDoc
I am running the Toyo 315's.... lots of hook. I have not run 335's but i can tell you i probably get another 80-100 HP to the ground with thiese tires and LCA relocation bracket (see sig) I agree with Lee that if you're gonna widen.... take advantage of that wider wheel and get more rubber on the road!
