MichaelP
Long story short version I bought a set of "brand new- used" original wheels from someone for my GT500 and had them shipped. Well, 2 out of the 4 wheels were damaged by UPS and they (UPS) are not going to pay....which is another very long story... Everyone involved seller, shipper and me know the wheels were perfect before being shipped and feel that the wheels were "intercepted" in route, opened, and then re-packaged hastily... The shipper (a wheel company) has been working with me but says it is typical to send damaged wheels to "a company" that will completely re-finish the wheel, repaint and clearcoat and it will be BRAND NEW. Im skeptical that it would look as good as brand new (which is what I was supposed to be buying). So, has anyone ever used one of these wheel re-finishing companies and had a wheel re-painted so that it looks original? This is not one of those mobile units.. You have to send the wheel to the company... M.
EL SHELBY
I have one of my brand new wheels out now to be refinished. NTB put a nice deep scratch in one. They are refinishing it on their dime. I'll let you know this evening how it turns out. The wheel was sent to Wheel Technologies. They have shops in several states. 2nd2none
I'd send them back to the company for a refund and they will have to settle with UPS to get the damages taken care of.

I had a nissan dealer f-up 3 of the 4 rims on a new GT-R last year while putting new tires on. They sent a guy to my house the next day while I was at work...swear to god they looked as good or better than new. They had the clear finished scratched to hell and several deep scratched from an air tool...probably 1-2mm into the metal. Came out prfect and still look good to this day. How long it will last I dont know. Dont know if this helps but it's my only experience.
MichaelP
I'd send them back to the company for a refund and they will have to settle with UPS to get the damages taken care of. Unfortunatley, they were purchased from another team shelby forum memeber who had them dropped off at a local wheel shipper. I wish I could just send them back but they have my money, Paypal, and everyone is saying it is UPS that has to pay for them. I originally wanted to send them back to the seller and shipper... but they said file a UPS claim. I did that and UPS denied the claim. This has been going on now for about 1 month... The shipper is trying to work with his UPS rep to get the claim to go thru.. but UPS uses another company called CRAWFORD that is some type of insurance company that UPS has hired to remove them from the equation.... and all liability... Did you know that if you dont use a "special" cardboard that has a "special" seal on it that UPS can deny your claim if you get shipped damage goods? I have learned a lot and I know will ultimately be out thousands of dollars on this deal. M.

My company files upwards of $50,000 a year in damaged goods with UPS and that isn't a requirement at all. We have damaged goods come back from our customers all the time. If your company is using UPS's insurance they would have probably paid it by now. My guess is they are "Self Insured" as my company is and can only get $100 per shipment from UPS. We build our insurance into our shipping costs, and I bet your shipping company does as well. Stick it to them amd make them pay for them. I'm sure the refinishing however will be flawless if you don't mind knowing they were damaged.

I have done everything by the book with UPS and the insurance on the wheels when they were shipped was standard 1500 bucks. UPS will not deal with me since Im not the shipper. I really dont have any options. If the seller will not take back the wheels and the shipper was only doing the seller a favor because he is a customer and the seller already has my money Im at the hands of the shipper. The shipper is HUGE...they are telling me they have called their UPS rep and met with them but the UPS rep has to "review" all the photos, etc... Believe me, Ezareth, this is so f'ed up it is almost beyond my comprehension. Im probably going to be in small claims court in Houston at some point.. As far as the "special cardboard" and special seal...Im only repeating what was shown and told to me by the local UPS rep who came over to my house to photograph the damaged goods. I knew UPS would deny the claim in a minute because the packaging was insufficient.. but remember, the package was opened mid-transit and re-packaged...UPS will never admit to that.. I believe the shipper packaged them correctly...so herein lies the complexity of the problem...
theseeker
Michael, My wife whacked two AMG wheels on her car and I was expecting to buy two new ones. The guy at the MB Shop said, "no problem we can fix them." I was skeptical to say the least. I was stunned when we picked up the car, the wheels were perfect and I have never noticed any difference at high speeds.

I will see if UPS pays the claim and hopefully buy one new wheel from Ford and have one repaired. It is really funny and not funny listening to your stories (especially theseeker). I buggered up a rim on my RR Sport and the dealer was MORE than happy to sell me a new one..not even a word from them that repairing the rim was an option.. This was a few years ago...now I know better.. M.

If I heard you correctly you paid with Paypal, and that gives you the ability to dispute a purchase which is the next step I'd take before more time passes. EL SHELBY
Well, I'm not having the same luck as the rest of you. Went by NTB after work to inspect the refinished wheel. The quality of repair looks good but the repaint doesn't match. They are going to send it off again. I'm not confident they will match the color. I may go ahead and order a new wheel and hand them a receipt when it comes back still not matching. In fact, for what it's costing them to do this again they could have replaced the wheel and pocketed the change.

You can actually ship to him, but I would call him first. Precision Wheel Service: 1-800-FIX BEND PRECISION WHEEL SERVICE Aluminum Wheel Restoration & Repair 59 Schoolground Rd., Unit 10 Branford, CT 06405 Hours: Monday through Friday 7:30AM to 5:00PM Saturday 8:00 AM to 12:00PM http://www.ctyellowpages.com/ads/pws.htm My friend a few years ago had all 5 stock BBS wheels for a late model (Late 80’s early 90’s)BMW 325 IX done. They looked as good or better that new, wheels were trued and refinished. He actually had a flat spot in one of the wheels that was not there. My Brother had his tires changed at Town Fair Tire here in CT. They put HUGE scratches in the wheels installing the new tires (NOT on one, BUT ALL 4). Young kid installing the tires used the wrong machine. They paid for it, gave him a rental while it was getting done. Wheels looked good as new or better. His wife had a Mercedes GLK (Mercedes Forester) with low profile all weather tires and scrubbed 2 of the wheels. Precision Fixed them and you’d never know. Hope that helps. PistolWhip
My cousin does wheel repair for a living (surprisingly a dam good living at that). I see your in PA, if your close to Philly, I can give you his number and most likely he'll be abe to meet up with you and fix the wheel like new while you wait. PM me if your in the Philly area. If not, I'd suggest stopping by your local dealership and ask them who they use to do their wheel repair and when they're there. All of the dealerships have "a guy" that comes probably once or twice a week every week. You can try to stop by while he's there and grease him up a little. MichaelP
Ok.. here is the update.. I got the letter back from UPS as to why they denied the 1500.00 claim... From UPS: "the single-wall, corrugated shipping container with NO visible box maker's CERTIFICATE was not sufficient to support the package weight." In other words, your shipper better be using decent packaging materials with the proper labeling from the box maker if you are going to have any hope in making an insurance claim... I did find out from our family attorney that when someone buys something and it is sent CIF (cost, insurance, freight) to you it must arrive in pristine condition or the seller must refund your money.. It does not matter who the seller uses for a shipper.. So, the seller in my case should have taken the goods back and dealt directly with his shipper and UPS...and refunded my money. Oh well.. I knew I was going to get totally hosed in this deal. Hopefully some of this info will be helpful to anyone buying goods from other TS members or anyone else for that matter. I appreciate eveyrone's feedback on the wheel and rim repair. I may just try to sell the two damaged wheels on ebay and recoup some of my money. M. EL SHELBY
Sorry to hear that. NTB ended up buying me a new wheel. But get this, they lost my tire from the damaged wheel! Now they are buying me two new tires for the front so I'll have a matching set. They pushed back on buying two tires until I asked to speak with their Regional Director. You could save the two damage wheels for a pair of drag radials or send them off to be widened and repaired at the same time. Just some thoughts. BUT, if I ever get that 315 kit from Griggs (if that ever happens)... wider rear tires on the stock rims would be a neat option! M.
