CobraKaz
I remember reading a thread a while back about 1/4 mile times . The point was raised about racing with TC off . Why is that and what difference does it make to the car over the 1/4 mile . Would you not get a better lauch with TC on ?

Im not the drag race expert, although ive done a bit, but with the TC on you dont have full control of the car,if it starts losing traction, the computer decides how long to wait till it gives you traction back.If you run with TC off, you have a better feel for wheel spin and can compensate as you see fit. But you need to be pretty exprienced with these cars to control the spin.Id practice a bit in a big parking lot launching with and w/o TC first. I won't even post my first run with TC off as it was embarasing to all GT 500 owners . 2nd 3rd and 4th runs were done with TC on . Even then , the best i managed was a meager 13.20 at 113 mph . I have to admit my times were getting a little better with each run but idon't get enough practise . All this was done on the stock street tires @ 25psi . For comparison sake , I had a friend there with me , we just finished putting an ATI pro-charger in his 2005 , 350 Z , he managed ( automatic ) 13.2 but his MPH was 102 to 103 . Is it difficult to break into 12's on street tires or is it just practise thati need .

jsarkis
I always run with it off unless it's wet out. I don't like to retard the power unless it's unsafe conditions. At the strip you'll probably loose about .2-.3 on your 1/4 with TC on. This is because the car's computer retards your timing / applies your brakes to limit wheelspin, thinking it's keeping you from loosing control. 1badshelby
My car looses .5 in the eighth with the TC on, but you really have to drive the car with it off! Throttle control is the key! Mike

Mike So , woul you say that the 13.2-3 is not to bad with the TC on in a 1/4 ? Speed was only 113 , would the TC have someting to do with this as well . I hear ya with the " Throttle control " . Damn tough to do though especially when i only go to a track 1 or 2 times a year .

As my roomate in college used to say, "learn to work with the drug," I drive all the time with the TC off , its just at the track ( airstrip ) that i could not hook . Like you say . jsarkis
My next round of mods will be with some 18's (11") since these stockers aren't very light. Right now I'm using the stock rims with BFGoods KDW2s 295/35/19s in the back. Once you lower the pressure they stick pretty good for street tires. Can'tfind these up here where i live. Anyone know any good tires from Nitto that will fit the odd ball 19'' rims ?
BigDan
My car actually has more traction on the 1-2 shift with it off. It spins hard into 2nd with it on but it just hooks 2nd with it off just as long as I didn't break traction in 1st. Do a short three second 2nd gear burn out and launch it at 2200 rpm with TC and AT set to OFF. If you don't spin out of the hole and grind 1-2 you will be mid 12's at this crappy track. Are you using the stock Tires ? If its a 2011 with SVT package ? If so , you likely hve the " Better Goodyear " Tires than the 2010's

Are the tires on Non SVT and SVT packaged cars the same ? I know there's Goodyear G2 tires but not sure on what model .

CobraKaz
The SVT has G2's and the non SVT have Eagle F1 Supercar tires. Figures, so i guess they won't make a 285x 19 in the G2's .
