CobraKaz
Forget about the Z28 . Looks like we have more competion from Aftermarket for the Mustang . I just checked Sean Hylands web site . He has a kit ready for the new 5.0 . It makes 515 rwhp with only 7 psi of boost . Comes with 3 year warranty to boot . Should be able to easily take our GT500 's unless they are modded . Anyone know the weight of the 5.0 compared to the GT500 .

There are 100's of vehicles that can be faster then a stock GT500 with a kit or bigger turbo etc etc. I just don't think you can compare a stock factory vehicle against anything modded. Even modded GT 500 , ie, 2.6 pulley , tune , CAI , most , if truthfull are making 540 to 550 rwhp , i would bet that the 5.0 with that SC and 3.73 would beat out beloved GT500's !!! That extra 6K did nothing to address the suspension or tires, and you can tack on a couple hundred pounds to the base GT putting it closer to the GT500. Radical08
There is always a faster car. I think John Force has one that will beat our GT500 too. I drive and love mine for what they are. I sport 548rwhp and that's good enough for me. I just like hot rodding around and not racing anyone just enjoying the ride.

This is exactly the reason you can't compare stock versus modified. Lets play this out all the way then. Since the 5.0L has a new blower we should also put one on the Shelby. Both cars can be modified to a certain point before they start blowing up. Theoretically in your scenario the 5.0L will win so lets go with that... Put a bigger blower on GT500, GT500 wins. Turn up boost on 5.0L, 5.0L wins. Turn up boost on GT500...500 wins again. Get bigger blower for 5.0L....it throws a rod and the 500 wins. I've personally been in a civic that will trash a GT500 and even most bikes in a 1/4 mile. He has 45k into the engine. By the theory you present here Civics are therefore now competition for the GT500. I'll say again, you can't compare a modified car to a stock factory car. PistolWhip
Yeah....it would beat them at who could smoke a tire faster :P~ ^^^^^ YUP ^^^^^ There's always something out there that will make "X" faster, better, stronger than "Y" it's like buying a computer and expecting it to still be the best technology a year later. No matter how hard they try though, the 11 GT will never be a Shelby, never be a GT500 and will never be able to carry the Cobra monikers, SVT monikers, etc.... That means something to me, maybe not everyone, but I'm fine with knowing that anyone with a pocket full of money can make their car faster than mine. EL SHELBY
Turn the competition from the street to the showroom. $35k+ out the door for a 5.0 then add $10k in mods (SC, Suspention, etc.) and you might as well have bought a GT500 for the same money. The vast majority of 5.0 sold will not see serious mods. To me comparing the 5.0 to the GT500 is like comparing Granny Smith to a Red Delicous. They look roughly the same when you squint, but they taste completely different from each other. They are also marketed to two different groups of people . Different by income and age. mciarochi
If you're going to compare modified to stock you're going to get all kinds of depressed after watching Watch him open it up at the end. You can't even beat a school bus any more.

A GT is a great ride but it will never be a Shelby GT 500 even if its been modded to be faster....

I couldn't care less about the 5.0 because if I wanted one I'd have one in my driveway right now. What I'm telling you is according to your theory any modified car would be competition to the Shelby. Ergo, comparing modified cars to stock cars is a useless endeavor.

Radical08
I get bored with the comparison threads because really who cares, I'm not going to buy every car that is produced, I buy what I like. I would like to see more threads on mods for the GT500, info for it and good deals rather than read about who may have a faster car.
