Son of GT
Howdy, I was wondering if anyone has installed one of the navigation systems taken out of other ford/mercury/lincoln cars. I want the touch screen navigation, but i wanted to make sure they will fit. Any info on this would be appreciated. Thanks Howdy back! My experience with the touch screen nav is with my 06' Escape Hybrid. I can tell you that the head unit is a "double din" chassis, and it supports an external 6 disc cartridge CD player. The CD slot on the head unit also plays music CD's, but its generally always filled with the navigation CD ROM. Judging by the speakers and the decent sound quality, I suspect that the amp is 500 watts, ala Shaker 500, but the system is not called that. The double din chassis is universal, but even though the head unit will fit from one double din car to another, you would probably have a myriad of other issues to deal with. I don't think that you can easely retrofit a factory nav head unit without the necessary peripherals to make the system work. One example would be the need to have the proper electronic compass that interfaces with the nav system. The other issue might be a wiring conflict. You probably would have to cut and splice the system into the harness rather than a plug and play connection. In the end, it might be cheaper and I'm sure easer to purchase a self supporting aftermarket system like a Kenwood or a Pioneer. Hope this helps.
