By looking at the photo's, you can tell there is WAY more to that story then what is reported on that forum.

It is pretty evident to me that the KR was the "faster" of the two vehicles that collided. If a Box Van "ran him off the road" he was trying REAL HARD to pass him on the right side (of the box van) at a rate of speed much higher than the "Box Van" was traveling.

My guess is that the KR was probably merging onto the Fwy from a acceleration ramp (a.k.a. "on ramp"), which BTW means HE (the merging vehicle) must yeild the right of way to oncoming traffic, not the other way around. The box van would have simply been required to maintain his speed, not speed up or slow down (unless there were mitigating circumstances).

Note the two white stripes down the side of the KR from the vehicle he contacted....then note how they *continue* along the bent in part of the KR, past the rear tire and to the end of the rear quarter. The van wasn't the one that hit the KR or it would'a just mushed the back end of it and spun the car around. The KR sideswiped the van and was either going too fast to get his speed eaualized (i.e. whoad up to the van) or he punched it to try and get past the van. Either way, it is evident that the KR did *not* hit his brakes and let the van pass him (as he should have, IF the circumstance is as I perceive it).

I'm NO expert in reconstructing vehicle collisions but in my early years as a apprentice mechanic (PC definition = Auto Repair Tech) I also drove a tow truck and was on rotation with the City of Montery (MPD), the City of Pacific Grove (PGPD) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP). I've recovered many types of vehicles including aircraft, boats, semi tractor/trailers, cars and trucks (I have stories that could make you sick). I've seen WAYYYY too many accidents to count and I've learned how to deduce what happened by the evidence left at the scene. As I said, I'm by no means a "expert" but I know how to read vehicle damage.

And that one reads: KR was going faster than the vehicle it rubbed against, on the right side of the other vehicle.

I also learned a LONNNG time ago that there are TWO sides to every story, two sides to every coin....

Just my observation and my OPINION,

Phill

While we're taking a guess at to what happened.....

Perhaps the KR was cut off by a truck coming into his lane but never made contact. The KR driver lost control and hit the guard rail on the left side of the road? Truck never made contact so he kept going?

I'm not sure this is a "hit and run"....more like a 1 car accident caused in part by another vehicle.

We are all "guessing" at what happened. There is no indication the KR was going faster or merging. I didn't see that stated anywhere. Did I miss it?

From the photos its hard to really say what happened. We are all speculating.

The only thing we are sure of is this KR got hit and it appears badly damaged and possibly totaled.

Hate to see this. What a shame. Glad no one was hurt.
