Squeaking noise from the rear...

Recommended Posts

Whenever I go over a bunch of bumps in the road I hear this squeaking sound coming from the rear of my car. I hear the squeaking in my SGT, my KR and I know a bunch of guys with mustangs that have the same squeaking noise. Anyone figure out what it is that makes the car squeak in the rear going over bumps? :headscratch:

Sounds like you have the infamous sway bar bushing squeak. There have been several related threads here on this topic.

Here is a thread that I posted with my solution, which was to grease my sway bar bushings with anti-seize.

If thats the case then I'm all set, just ordered an adjustable aluminum Panhard bar from Griggs Racing. That should do the trick.

The info I am sharing came from Bud on 1/22/2010 and this is a quote from what he relates, it could be one of three areas making the noise, the rear sway bar links could be a bit dry, look for the zerk fitting where grease can be added, it could be making noise where the top of the rear shocks mount to the body, you have to remove part of the trunk liner to check the top of the shock bolts, or it could actually be the rear muffler hanger hitting the underside of the body, look at the rear hanger if it looks to long, you will see where it is hitting, if so then about 1/4 inch could be removed.

In typical Bud fashion his e-mail to me was sent at 6:02am. I think we have discussed all of these to some extent and the famous quote from your owners manual, this is normal for a Shelby Mustang.

Hope this helps.... GG

My noise came from the rear seat panels where the hanger hooks are at, more noise when it is cold outside during the winter.

I expanded the metal tabs, added some thick tape and stuffed a few news paper to keep things tight and the noise is now gone.

Turning up the shaker 1000 also helps :hysterical:
