kpevin
One of the more annoying things on a 50K+ car is a hood prop rod so I have been looking at all the different gas strut kits out there and ran across these CPC strut kits a week ago. The brackets are cast aluminum and painted to match the car color, plus they are made for GT500s. It doesnt weigh much and looks about as OE as you can get. No drilling, took about 10 minutes to install. I was scared of these since a lot of people say these kits in general (except the redlines) wont hold the hood up in the wind, but these seem to hold it very well, I can close it about 1/2 way and it will go up on its own. No way any normal wind will blow the hood down IMO. That may change when it cools off out or the struts get older but for now these get a thumbs up. I searched here and didnt see any mention of these.

I have installed the Redline on friends cars and they are a great product. I just did not want to drill into my hood at this time so I got these to see how they work. My biggest fear is the hood bowing up which happened with the SPP and I know there were a bunch of posts on that subject. I know that with the Redline that is not an issue. I'll keep an eye on it for any bowing, seems most of the pressure is on the hood hinge but who knows.
F150 Duke
While we're talking hoods, gas struts, and metal props....is the correct way to close the hood in stock trim with the prop rod, to hold the hood partway up and let it drop completely closed. As apposed to pushing it closed?

ABSOLUTELY dont push it shut--the aluminum hood will get a dent over time.Just let it drop like you described
