I read on a web site that Ford is thinking about coming out with a GT350.

Sounded like they wold put a 4.6 V8 in it and it would cost $ 4000 to $ 5000 less

than a GT500. Does anyone have more information ?????

This all started from an article we published on 08 December 05 stating that some prototype GT500s have 4.6L engines in them. Since then, speculation has it that a GT350 is on the way. Shelby is coming out with a new car on 12 April - it might be the GT350 H.

Robert, any idea if it's in concept or production form? Is it ready to roll off the assembly line? I.E. Would I be able to buy one in the next 6 months or would I have to wait another year? Thanks for any info you can squeak out, this just may change my plans with the GT500.

Indeed, it is way too less to call it a GT350. For a GT/CS I can imagine it, but not for a Shelby. The GT350 probably gets the 5.4 less supercharger with 350+hp. Like the GT500 gets real 500hp.

So no 348 steps to the other building, like Shelby said about the original GT350 name history. How many steps is it to that building? 348. Ok, then we call it the GT350 and now you can go back to work!

For 2007, Ford is offering a GT/CS (GT California Special) nationwide. 2006 GT/CS's came out very late in the year and were only sold in California. The GT/CS gets the same 300hp 4.6L 3V V8 as the standard GT, but gets a ton of cosmetic upgrades (hood scoop, side scoop, side stripes, unique front and rear end treatments, etc.).

I think the only GT350 coming would either be from Shelby American in the form of the paxton-supercharged V6 that has been advertised in magazines lately (as a parts package, not a whole turn-key car), or as a decontented GT500 that still uses a 5.4L DOHC V8, but no supercharger while retaining all the looks and handling of the GT500. Less weight & money w/o the supercharger, so more nimble with less power.

 I say they use the 4.6L "chipped" motor with 350 h.p. that was used in the test cars along with the same suspension parts as the GT500, and then change a few stripe combinations that we wanted & Walla!

 A Shelby GT350 is born for 5k less & in major demand! :happy feet:

More coin for Ford in the “Way Forward” thinking.... :yup:

And there is an unvale in Ny and its a car being built in Vegas. not at Ford. hang in, all good rumors come true

Possible GT350 to be at NYIAS in April. Not sure what engine. Also word is out on a limited production GT350H /black + gold Hertz rental car with 320 hp. History repeats itself.

Im not an expert by all means... so what kind of Horse Power would a GT350 have with a decontented version of the GT500 that still uses a 5.4L DOHC V8, but no supercharger??

If the GT500 gets 475hp, w/o the supercharger do you think it would be at least 350hp ???

My understanding is it will be the same 4.6 as the Mustang GT just tweaked a little by the shelby people. Supposed to only be 320HP, and 200 to be made. Probably all for Hertz and not to be sold to the public.

If that were true, what a travesty!! Unless it's a true upgrade from the GT (aka a GT500 with the Terminator engine) using the GT350 name on a car with 20 hp more than a GT is a disgusting marketing ploy. Let's hope Ford has more sense than to stoop to that level.

I disagree, and posted much of what follows elsewhere on the site (under "poll).

First, I don't think this is a Ford effort, but a Shelby product.

Secondly, a slight increase in the GT's power would follow the original GT350's heritage. I think the Hi-Po in the 65-66 Mustang produced 271 HP; the GT305 around 305. The original Shelby's advantage, in addition to it's looks, was handling, brakes. I would gladly give up HP for a more balanced, better handling. A 320-350HP Mustang would be plenty for me. But, please, offer the spoiler delete of that cheesy, "PepBoys" wing seen on the spy photos and on most 05-06 GTs.

Also, I think Ford, if they are actually doing the GT350, would be nuts to produce two 400+HP Mustangs in the same year.

I wouldn't be surprised if the GT-350H was simply the CS-6, a supercharged V6. 40 years ago Carroll Shelby talked Hertz into buying 1000 1966 GT-350s made at his facilities

Now he talked them into buying 200 V6 Mustangs made at his facilities.

Somehow I thought it was only 100 cars in 1966'? I think it might be the 4.6 gt engine /320HP this time.

According to a couple of books I have, Hertz ordered 200 cars on 23 Nov 1965. On 21 Dec 1965, they ordered 800 more.

First 85 had manual transmissions, next 915 were autos.

Also, the first 200 were black with yellow stripes, next 230 were red, blue, white, and green, all with gold stripes, and the remaining 570 were black with yellow stripes.

Source: Shelby, Racer for the Street, Mustang, by Randy Leffingwell, Page 68.

So who knows? If history repeats itself, Hertz's first order of 200, might be followed by 800 more.

If's it a V8 and not a supercharged V6, I might be interested.

Thankfully I was wrong. It will be a SOHC V8.
