this is going to be my third gt500. 09-10-11. i got the svt package with my now car. what do you guys think about white/red combo. also tires look odd, how do you think they will stand up as a everyday car, no tread on the outsides.lastly is there a big difference in the suspension from 10 to 11. live in nyc

I'm curious about the tires too. I can tell you that in 2 weeks of driving my 2011 SVTPP (800+ miles already!) the tires are (a) grippy as all get out, and (B) noisy as all get out.

What sort of life did people see with the previous Goodyear F1 tires and what treadwear rating did those have? These new ones are treadwear 220. Hoping to make a direct comparison on life from Goodyear to Goodyear.

I had F1 SC tires as OEM equipment on my 2002 Z06. They had a treadwear of 220 as well, lasted 30K miles (no strip or track time on them). I did a lot of hard cornering with them but not a lot of wheelspin/burnouts. Towards the end of their life they were getting a little hairy to drive in the rain. Replaced them with Michelin PilotSports, which were just as good in the dry and were quieter and better in the rain.

I got caught in a pretty heavy downpour last week with the G:2 tires on my GT500. I'd advise keeping speeds low in the rain with them. They did not inspire the confidence I got from the Michelin's............

The tread depth on the g:2's on my car were 7/32" front and 8/32" rear when new (or was that the other way around? I know one axle had more depth than the other). The depth on the F1 SC's on the Z06 were 8/32" when new.

Net-net, I expect 20K miles out of the G:2 tires, due to increased wheelspin with the GT500. Friends of mine who have driven my car commented on the excellent grip of the tires.

I have 2000 miles on my GT500 now and am showing no visible wear on the tires.

If I have a complaint it is that I can't drive over any back roads as it constantly kicks up every tiny pebble I drive over. Nothing makes me cringe more than the "tink, tink, tink" I hear driving over that crap....one of which happens to be the only way out of my community.

Wish they put flaps on the front like they did the rear.

What about some of that clear plastic "car bra" material applied to the rocker panels? Seems that would protect against abrasions etc.

I'm glad it wasn't just me. One of the first things I noticed was the constant "tick, tick, tick" of every pebble being kicked up into the wheel well. I never had tires do that so much. I don't even have any dirt roads that I travel.

I don't know if you already know about this (or anyone else)...but a bunch of those pebbles get collected in the rear valance behind the tire. If you tap the valance there..more than likely you'll get a pebble storm coming out that area. I seem to have to do that every week or so to shake them all out.

Cover all the pebble entry seams, holes etc with clear plastic "car bra" material??

I hear that tink tink tink when just driving very slowly on the road leading off my street(New houses still some construction on my street). The street doesn't really have visible rocks on it. At first I kind of didn't think much of it but when I took a look I saw that there was actually some very minor damage on the paint behind my front tires. Mind you it's pretty hard to spot because of the way the metal there bends in and you have to get your face right up to it in good light. It's easy enough to polish out as none of it is through the clear but I'm sure it's going to keep happening. I've looked around for a set of flaps for the GT500 but there really don't appear to be any front ones. Likely I'll just polish them out in the spring when I pull the car out and have the area 3M'd. I'm glad that lots of people are seeing this problem and it's just not me.

There are many types of liners you can install in your wheel wells to help/cure this issue. Many types, most are reasonably priced. This was one of my first mods along with my rusty butt spa treatment.

Yeah this is exactly how it is for me! I noticed right behind my front tires under the stripe, tiny little pock marks from the pebbles. Driving my wifes fusion or my focus down the same road at 3 times the speed I hear nothing. These tires have to be the culprit, too sticky. If after a month it is noticable what will it look like in a year? )=

Definately keeping an eye open for flaps.

Ezareth and Ezkill,

You might find this link helpful in solving the "pebble" problem as another TS member did.

Cool...I did a search for what he purchased and it turns out that Jaeger doesn't make them for the 2010+ therefore he must be using the 2005-2009's on his 2010. I just want to verify that I'm looking at the right ones on the Jaeger site before I purchase them. I think I would trim them off a little so they aren't as obtrusive on the sides but they could work. If not I'll polish the area and 3M it.

Flaps

There are a few available front flaps for 2010, one even lists the shelby. I might try these as long as I don't have to drill anything.

I called this place down the street that does 3M on vehicles to see if they could sell me a piece of 3M for behind the front tires. Guy said yea no problem just come down. Not only did they give me a 2x2 foot sheet for free they also cut out the pieces I needed on their machine on another sheet then charged me nothing for all of it. I've had 3M and tinting done there before but wow, that's some pretty good service. I'll clay and polish the area tonight and see if it needs any touch ups then 3M it over the weekend. They cut out the entire piece that would go behind the front wheel but I'll trim it off as I only want a piece below the racing stripe. I don't get any road rash above the stripes nor do I particularily want to apply over them.

  • 2 years later...

I just installed the Front Flaps on my 2011 GT 500 SVT Package. It was a snap. it took me less then a minute on each site. I purchased them from the online shelby store. I purchased the ones with GT 500 on them. They look pretty good and match the one on the rear, however they are not made as well. I'm not saying they are not made well...they are just not made as good as the OEM rear flaps. Delivery time was within 5 business days. I hope this helps with the road crap that keeps getting thrown up on the car by the Goodyears. Boy they are sticky. I'll update this post once I have had time to put a few miles on it.
