What do you use your KR For ?

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd ask, would also like to see some pics if you have them while using your beasties.

For me I am up to 1,900 miles, had soooooo much fun. I purchased the car from Tasca Ford, RI, Bob Tasca Snr was kind enough to sign the dashboard and we had a bit of a wait until it came safely across 'the pond'. After the car arriving in May 2009, June 2009 we did the Jersey International Motoring Festival. The KR was the pace car for the sprint action and hill climbs on the island, basically it knocked everybody out with the wonderful symphony of whine and burble, snap, crackle, pop. In July it then took a ferry up from Jersey to the South coast of England, up to Leicestershire central England for the UK Mustang Owner's Club GB 30th Anniverysary and of course the marque's 45th at Mallory Park racing circuit. We had a weekend of track action then show & shine. The KR again was awesome, I had the pleasure of feeling the fun of what the car was really built for. August then saw it back in action in Jersey, firstly leading the American Muscle demonstration run through at the Jersery Battle of the Flowers, then at the Jersey Festival of Speed at the end of the month, this time doing the 1/4 mile sprint and again being the pace car for the hill climbs.

June this year saw a bigger and better International Motoring Festival, we brought over 6 historic F1 cars and 6 Moto GP bikes (Cresent Suziki). The KR had place of honour as it led the F1 cars along the 5 mile road in St Ouen's Bay to start race proceedings. It was mixing it with Ferarris, Porche GT RS3's, Lambo Murcielagos, Diabo's, Aston Martin DB9's and Vantages and the F1 car demo runs. It also ran on the active arena - a series of closed roads in the centre of the capital, St Helier, where we ran varioud demostrations - everything from karts, through bikes, F1 cars and of course the super cars mentioned above. We ran the KR with my '93 Fox and also another S197 4.6 GTCS as a demo.

Here are a few pics.

Its a contstant battle trying to keep the mileage down, making sure I do the best events, educate as many people who show an interest about the car, preserve Bob's memory, but making sure also I add unique history to the car. As we all know, we are lucky enough to have been able to afford and buy one of these marvellous machines, history, you can't buy.....I guess I'm the current guardian......

Anyway, enjoy

We actually used ours for something a little different. In May, my wife's niece graduated from high school. Her request was to be able to go to the Senior Prom in the KR. It was agreed that we would chauffeur her and her date to the promenade and then to the prom in the KR. Since there were three nieces and one nephew who were going to the prom, it would not have been fair for just one of them to be chauffeured, so we had Donna's brother come down and we brought all of the Shelby's up and took each of the nieces, nephew, and their dates to each of the events.

They had a great time and we enjoyed it almost as much since we got to get some really fun driving time in. I'll post some of the pictures later.

It's a shame that so many of these cars will just sit and the seals will go bad. Alex was telling me that many other things in the motor are affected when the cars just sit. Then the quick start ups and not brought up to temp. just does them more harm.

You should drive it Scotty.:shift:

.......or it will rot.

I can always replace the seals. I bring her up to temp once a week with my 3 mile run. I always said a rotting collectible with no miles is worth more than a beat on one. I do enjoy it though. With my life right now she's in perfect hands.

For what this car is and the work to do that, that's petty. I'd rather be an original owner of a rotting 30 yr. car than be looking for one. No matter how and when I drive this car it makes me happy. If I have to worry about whats going to go bad probably after I'm dead then I should sell it. I'd rather have it go bad with the way I own it than beating it to death on the roads that aren't clean and parking it where people just don't care about other people's property. I'm happy with it now being my toy no matter how much I drive it. That's all I can ask for.

Just broke 15,000 miles. Took delivery on 4/22/09, so I'm averaging about 1,000 miles per month. I'm following Carroll Shelby's advice, which is that they built these cars to be driven! I never thought I could have so much fun driving a car. Plus, its still so awesome to have people give me the thumbs-up, ask about the car and want to take pictures. What's most impressive is the young kids who actually know what a Shelby is. When they see the KR designation, they know how special this car is and ask lots of questions.

Yes, we are fortunate to own one of these very special beasts!

As to the original question, I drive her a couple times a week and go to the occasional show. I keep it cleaned and shined, inside and out.

BTW JerseySandy, I like your taste in colors. While I do like the more common silver with blue stripes, the red/silver combination is the best!!!!

I drive mine whenever I start having withdrawals, usually once or twice a week.

I occasionally drive it to work. I also drive it to a couple of car shows or club meetings a month.

My boys like me to drop them off at school in the Shelby. I've had the KR since January and have 2800 miles.

The 2007 GT500 I had before the KR had 23000 miles in it when trade for the KR and I drove it daily for 3 years.

She's only original and mint one time and plan on keeping her that way . When started up she is driven for 20 or more miles depending on the weather conditions. She is treated like the rest of my gas & oil collection in GA. When it's cruise night she can't wait to go and meet the other gals .I am retired so no daily work drive anymore. It's treated like a big old toy but never goes in the sand box.

I use the KR to relieve stress and to relax. I'll just fire her up and take her for a spin and all is right in the world. Sometimes i'll just sit by the bay with her and have some lunch.......just relaxing.

Sometimes all I need - is to hear my car start to make me grin real big time. Do what makes you happy. My '03 has 34,000 miles my '06 has almost 13,000. (I take turns driving them every workday.)

PS: They are not KR's obviously, but if I had one, it would be rotated through the week the same way as the others. ShelbyLt

Mainly for fun and spirited driving. Mustang get togethers when other shelby vehicles are not allowed. Occasionally to work like today. Not to often to work as I am on a highway and too much dust flying around.

Hi all this is very interesting & thanks for your thoughts and more pics of your gorgeous cars and colour combos. I can't believe I'm the only one whose driven their KR on the track ???

I agree it is relaxing to start them up and have a good listen, love the snap cracke pop when a wee bit cool on the overrun as well.... :happy feet:

You have no idea how much I want to do a track day, but I face a real dilemma. In order to get on a track, I'll need to install the brake duct kit that came with the KR. However, Ford/Shelby is very specific that the kit is ONLY to be used for tracks/racing. From what I hear, once you put the kit on, its next to impossible to take off, and there are specific warnings about not using the kit for daily/highway driving.

If anyone is heading to one near MD let me know and hopefully I can make arrangements...shift.gif

FORD put mine on not knowing what it was, so I drove around with it installed for about 2 months FEBRUARY time frame, I did not see any issues although I did have them take it off. I have the same issue as I have no lift at my house to do this myself and it costs around $500 to have it installed and then another $500 to de-install it , that is what the dealer tried to charge me when I told them they needed to remove it...slapfight.gif I shut them down on that though...finger.gif

To be honest it's very rare for me to find anyone my age that has any idea who Mr. Shelby is or even know what he did. It's also hard for me to explain since I grew up knowing what a Cobra was and the GT500 and slobbering over these cars.

If you drive it on the highway with the brake kit installed you can easily pick up a stone and debris and it could make it's way to the rotor.
