Ready to get Charged!!

I am just about ready to take the plunge and get my Shelby GT supercharged. I have a few questions for anyone that could help.

1- My car is an automatic. Is one supercharger better than the other for my car? Anything else that needs to be addressed on an automatic car for a supercharger? How much HP gain can I expect to get with an automatic?

2- I plan on getting the work done so the car can be documented in the registry the way it should. I live in South Carolina. Is there a better mod shop to use? Which one have you used and what were your plus' and minus'?

3- Are there any other mods that need to be done other than what is included in the GT/SC package? I am not looking to race the car, just a fun, spirited road car that is fun to drive.

Thanks for any and all input.

Barry

If possible, do the Whipple, and have it converted in Vegas. I'm sure Tasca does a nice job also, but for me, having the conversion done by Shelby American was my preference.

I didn't do the heat exchanger with the dual fan setup, but I would recommend the heat exchanger that Shelby sells. I just ordered one and am waiting for the install.

Also, replace the fan belt tensioner arm with the Thump RRR tensioner arm. The stock tensioner just doesn't seen to provide enough tension to keep the belt from flying off the engine. Whipple also sells this same Thump RRR tensioner arm branded under the Whipple name.

Check this link to Thump RRR. http://www.thumpracing.com/

I have the whipple on mine and love it. I did not replace the tensioner and have had no problems. I even beat the sh :censored: out of it this last weekend at the track. Nine passes in 100+ heat with drag radials. I believe the real culprit in shredding the belts is the power steering pump pulley. It's not always aligned properly and eats the belts. Make sure whoever installs your s/c, checks to make sure the p/s pulley is aligned too.

I had Alex MacKenzie (vapor08gt500) install mine and this is what he told me.

I question that anymore!

Makes real good sense!! I had Tasca do mine and I'm throwing belts left and right. I don't think they check any alignment, they just bolt it on and hold out thier hand for the check.

As far as the GT/SC conversion, in order to have it registered as the GT/SC you need to get the drilled and slooted rotors, Stainless lines and gauge pod as a minimum. This is what Shelby shows as the package now. Check the GT/SC forum section.

When I inquired with Bud (when he was still there) early this year about the GT/SC package, he told me I could do the s/c alone and still qualify for the GT/SC stripes & designation. I already installed the stainless brake lines myself.

He gaves me quotes for the s/c only and also with the guage pod.

Whoever you decide to go with, make sure they check that ALL pullies are properly aligned with each other.

I went back through the SC/GT thread and you're correct. I found a post by a member stating what I posted but it was never confirmed by Shelby.... I stand corrected! Sorry.

I think I will be in contact with Alex about the power steering pump issue. I did some rough measurements on mine and it looks like the power steering pump is out of alignment by about 1/4"!

Alex will set you straight. He said mine was off a little and he fixed it.

Good luck with it.

I would recommend the Whipple 475hp HO. It is the same supercharger as the 550hp HO, it just has a different pulley and tune to protect the transmission. You can also get the Kenne Belle but I went with the Whipple for what it is worth. I would also recommend TASCA as the east coast authorized Shelby Mod Shop. Call Don Berry at the Mod Shop and he can answer your questions. Good luck in your decision. I chose the basic package for now, just the SC, striping designation, and factory certification.

Sorry to disagree but that is not true. It is highly suggested by SAI but not a requirement. At least it wasn't in the beginning. John Walker threw two boxes of brakes in my trunk when I left. I had them installed when I got home.

You are correct.... "In the begining".... that sounds like the start of a book I once read... anyway back to topic... in the begining they did do just the SC and what ever else you wanted. After the "release" of the model, in July 2009, they made the stipulation that in order to have it listed in the registry as a GT/SC you need to get the drilled and slotted rotors, Stainless lines and gauge pod as a minimum. Anything done prior to July 2009 would still carry the GT/SC title with an asterisk (*) stating it was done prior to the release of the model in July 2009. At least that's how I understood it. I've been wrong before.... :hysterical: If I'm wrong again well then I'll stand corrected!

Have a great day!!

I had my S/C installed at Quantum in April. I did not get the brake package as my car already had the same brakes installed as Shelby installs. I did have the gauge pod and GT/SC decal installed . Shelby in Vegas or any Shelby authorized mod shop will install with the same authenticity. I received my plaque to install under the hood stating factory installed by Shelby American along with my certificate of authenticity stating Shelby American Inc. congratulates --my name-- on the completion of your Shelby GT SC Edition 2007 Shelby GT. Then it gives my Ford Shelby GT vin number and Shelby CSM no. 07sgt0304. It was signed by Carroll Shelby, AMY Boylan,Gary Patterson and Gary Davis. The difference between Vegas and the mod shops is i had JBA shorty headers on my car and Vegas said i or they would have to return to stock and Quantum said i could leave my headers on. There's always a bunch of rumors as to whether you would be a authorized GT/SC but you would definately be a certified GT/SC with less than the whole package as i was.

Just one more thing on at least my car was I did not receive a GT/SC sticker. It was only after on this forum I saw other cars with the GT/SC sticker that I called John Walker. He said they did not have the stickers when my car was modified but he did send me the sticker in the mail. I have the stickers in my files. I never put them on.

I had thought I would have the stickers put on the car but I decided I would not put them on because that is the way it came from Shelby and it seemed cool to me to maybe the only SAI GT/SC not to have the designation on the car. Maybe there is some other car that is like mine I do not know.

It is also kind of a sleeper status. No one knowing that I have an extra 149 HP on tap.

My story reminds me of those articles you see 30 years later in car magazines about cars that were suppose to have one thing but slipped thru the cracks with something that was not suppose to be.

I remember seeing these new GT/SC stickers on Johns desk while we were setting up my SS package. I thought now that is cool, a SGT super charged.
