You can just go to advanced auto or similar and have them check the codes for free, there are plenty of OBD lists on the internet to see what the code is. Thats what I did for mine when the gas gauge freaked out and set a check engine light, it was just for fuel sender out of range. After I knew it was nothing serious I just pulled the ECU battery fuse under the hood for a few minutes and cleared it.

Its under warranty so you should just take it to a Ford dealer, if they arent busy they can check it while you wait, local dealer wanted me to leave it so I just went to advanced and got the code..

I was going to reply the same as kpevin you'll need to go to a parts store like Advanced to have your computer scaned and the codes read. You can look up the codes on the internet to see if anyone has an easy fix. With such a new car it's really worth getting the code scanned to see how "severe" the code is, most likely it must not be that severe if your car is still running. Most codes I've seen have to do with emissons related issues, O2 sensor, etc.

And no the sync health report wont tell you the codes, just you have the engine light on lol.

Lol. What a descriptive vehicle health report. I would have thought it would send the code and also tell what the problem is. Hopefully Bob's is just a simple sensor that's acting funny. I know the O2 sensor in my explorer was set to trip at a certain mileage. Dealership told me how to reset it and same sensor has been in for about 100k miles after the reset

OK thanks--a good friend has a code checker--it was throwing out a PO305 code, which says that #5 cylinder misfired--i got 2 codes, both 305.Its been so humid here Im wondering if the MAF sensor can adjust for itAlso dont know how many misfries it takes to trigger the code.Couldnt feel it in driving at all.Havent changed gas,and wasnt going through the gears or anything.Giuess ill just see if it pops up again, and if it does bring it in to a dealer

You may have a coil going bad, clear it and see if comes back. It usually has to do it a couple times before the engine light will come on.

Yea, what do you want for free :)

On my old Pontiac the onstar lady would tell you the codes if the CEL was on, but that cost 17.00 a month ;)

thanks i was thinking the coil as well, there are 1 per cylinder right??I have the onstar lady for my Caddy and its great--one time i was getting a check engine light, called her and she told me to check my gas cap--it was loose--amazing feature

Then I'd start by inspecting the #5 spark plug (and circuitry)!

Just remember, "Codes" just point you in in the general direction (which SYSTEM has a problem), not to specific pin-point diagnosis

In other words, it's not saying your #5 SPARK PLUG is bad, just that there was a misfire on the #5 cylinder....which could be something like a exhaust leak at the #5 exh. port letting fresh air (and MORE OXYGEN, which indicates LEAN) in.

HTH,

Phill

Yes, 8 coils. It could be a plug, injector or vacuum leak as well, or even something mechanical, anything that can cause a missfire.

well, got another code this week, and have date with my local Ford guy,who sells alot of Shelbys, and has 4-- 2011 verts on his lot. This time the code was different than a cyclinder misfire. It was 2 codes saying that the fuel was too lean,on both sides of the engine.Wonder if theyre connected to the previuos codes. The car feels fine, except when i first start a cold engine,it runs a little rough for about 3 minutes--ill let you all know the diagnosis

Hi Torched10...just wondering, are you driving your car often? Almost sounds like problems from sitting around too much. Not sure though.

i drive it evrey day its not raining--ive got 4000miles on it since last June--no long trips though, but high speed runs on highway,so dont think its from sitting around like some trailer queen.Funny though,my 65 GTO doesnt put 500 miles on it a year, and it starts everytime and runs great--i think the MSD 6AL in it helps a little

Okay then...definitely not from lack of use then. It was just a thought.

Ok after making sure they had an SVT tech, taking pictures of my car with todays newspaper to protect against damage while they had it,checking on what codes were coming up and what they meant, turned out to something simple--my JLT intake had worked itself loose ( my fault),and i was bringing air directly to thorttle body.Dealer was nice enough not to charge me---next time i get a light, ill check the intake first.

BTW any of you guys in Atlanta, i went to Sandy Springs Ford and their mechanic seemed really good---if you need work, id consider going there--they have a speed shop as well

I may be moving to the Atlanta area in the next year or so Bob. I'll keep them in mind for mine.

Gotta get out of this Snowy State.

My 2010 had this happen as well. its 100% stock and luckily it happened right before my 15,000 mile service. the dealer replaced my passenger fuel pump however the light came back on approximately 700 miles later. since then it hasn't happened but i'm going to the closest dealership I find when it does.
