Blown Away
I'm in. GREAT Dan!!! Looking forward to this. Looks good for me... Tom I checked the rules again for convertibles Tom. You will be fine with a helmet and the SFI rated jacket cause of the S/C. I'll be there...what car should I bring?? LOL Alex Alex, the new car is fine too, that is if you don't bring your daily driver...lol I'm hoping my buddy will be going too. He brings his motorhome (for an A/C cooled lounge) and double stacker trailer. He's got a real bad ass '66 Chevelle with a 454 and nitrous. He just repaired his 6 speed tranny that he broke last time at the track and just got some new aluminum heads for it. His wife drives an 05 GTO and runs against Laura. I will have my drag radials by then (got the wheels all polished Alex), so hooking up shouldn't be a problem anymore. :happy feet: :happy feet: Dan
vapor08GT500
Sounds great Dan!! I promised Glen and Lisa that are buying my E55 in October that I wouldn't race the car anymore, so the 10.87 will be its final run by me. I think with my new tune and a low DA the car is capable of 10.5-10.6's. It has been the best and most fun of any daily driver I have ever owned and completely problem free. They are going to love the car. I will then build another..LOL So, I will bring the new Shelby, hopefully with the 3.6LC Kenne Bell if I have a hood by then...should be fun... Fontech
Dan (Blown Away), Since you started this thread, could you add the TS Members that are going to Post #1. This way we can see who is going. Here is the list so far: Dan (Blown Away) Tom (Fontech) Alex (vapor08GT500) Dan (MY500SS) Looks like the drag is from 2:00pm to 10:00pm. Perhaps we all should meet somewhere for lunch about 12:00pm. This way we all park our rides together. Chime in if you have decided that you want to go. They expressed interest, but haven't heard anything. Hopefully some more TS members will show too. It really is a fun time. FYI, they open the gates at 12:00 and from previous experience, (when they open at 6am normally) there is a lot of people waiting already. I happened to talk with my friend Bill today and he will be there with his motorhome and both of his cars. A friend/client of his will be bringing his custom '66 Nova that Bill built. We like to park next to the clock display at the end of the 1/4 mile. It is a great spot to see who wins. People will line up outside, then they open the gates and you line up inside one lot and they take your money and issue you inspection cards. You then go into the track area and get inspected over at the tech area, or if you have a trailer, you go park in a spot and unload then go to tech and you get assigned a session # (usually 4 sessions total). So it's kind of in your best interest to be there when they open the gates. We will be with Bill upon opening so we can get that spot and surrounding area too. Just look for the motorhome and stacker trailer, you can't miss it...lol. For food, we usually bring pre-made sub sandwiches that you get in the store along with chips and drinks in a cooler. It's the easiest thing to do cause you don't want to be trying to prepare something when they call your session...lol Dan
Blown Away
Got my drag radials, now I just have to take them to my friends shop, Wild Bill's Performance in Murrieta, to get installed on my wheels I bought from Alex. Dan

Blown Away
So, is this just show up before noon or do we pre-sign up and pay before July 17th? Dan, It is just a show up and pay when you get there kind of thing. They accept and prefer cash, but you can also use a credit card. It just takes them a little longer to do the transaction. You don't have to show up before noon, it's just that they group you by session when you do the tech inspection, and if you want to run against a friend, you need to be in the same session. I'm not sure what the cutoff is in each session, but they usually end up with 4 sessions. They also let you buy more than one card, depending on turn out. Another way around it is have a passenger with you and have them buy a card too (another $10 for the passenger). Laura and I will each buy a card ($40 total) but she will only run a couple times and I do the rest when they call her session. When we register for tech, we tell them we want cards for session 1 and 2, because they are usually still doing session one when we tech. The main thing is to have current registration, insurance and driver's license, and for our cars, helmets and an SFI rated racing jacket (like I said previously, you can pick up one for $50 at summit racing). Other than that, it's a day of fun!!! Dan

Blown Away
Just a heads up, my friend Bill will have his gas grill for bbq'ing there. We are not sure yet what we are going to bring, probably be something quick and easy, so keep that in mind if you want to grill. More details to follow. I'm sure you guys already know this but just a reminder, they don't allow alcohol and (sorry Tom) you can't wear shorts if you are driving. Jeans are fine. We are trying to get some more of Bill's clients to join us. So far between TS and Bill, there are about 8 cars going. I'm attaching a pic of Bill's Chevelle and Tim's Nova from today's Father's Day Car Show we attended. Dan

Fontech
Guys, I am very confused about the rules for July 17, 2010. Looks like I will not be able to drag. In the first link for AAA Speedway it stated: Roll Bars & Cages Roll bar required in any vehicle running between 10.00 and 11.49 E.T. (convertibles between 11.00 and 13.99). Roll bar/cage structures must meet minimum NHRA standards as found in the 2004 rulebook. And then it states: Convertibles All racers participating with convertibles that are quicker than 13.99 seconds MUST wear a helmet. Note: When elapsed times are quicker than 11.99 specialized racing equipment is required. For example, when a roll bar or cage is required, so is an approved 5-point harness assembly. If you know or suspect that your vehicle will exceed these ET limits, we suggest contacting the NHRA Tech Department at (626) 914-4761 with your questions. Here is the link http://www.autoclubspeedway.com/Tickets-Events/Events/2010/Auto-Club-Dragway/Street-Legal-Rules.aspx And then you have the NHRA Rules. Here is their link http://www.nhra.com/competition/etquickref.aspx . I called the NHRA Tech Line and it is what it is, confusing… Just called back AAA Speedway and talked with Kat (she) and I will need a roll cage if I am faster than 13:49. They will let me drag the first run and if I am faster than 13:49, I will need to see the tech station. They will tell me to either slow it down or that I need a roll cage. They will allow me another pass and if I am still faster than 13:49 I will need to set out the rest of the day. Kat also stated to me that the SFI Jacket is not required unless you have nitrous. So it looks like I need to do some amazing runs with only 2 runs for the day. Tom

I don't know what capacity Kat has there, but the tech inspector told me that supercharged cars need the SFI jacket. Why she is telling you it is just for nitrous cars who knows. I don't know if she just works in the office or does the races too? About the convertible thing, more confusion. According to their website it says: "Convertibles All racers participating with convertibles that are quicker than 13.99 seconds MUST wear a helmet. Note: When elapsed times are quicker than 11.99 specialized racing equipment is required. For example, when a roll bar or cage is required, so is an approved 5-point harness assembly. " Why it says one thing under the roll bar section and a different thing under the convertible section, who knows??? I know they don't let you run a car under 10 seconds there. Why, I really don't know. The motorcycles I've seen there, run in the 9's. But I have seen a car do a pass in the 9's and nothing was said. There are a couple under 10 second cars that run and do just that. They'll be hauling down the track and let up at the end and end up with a 10 to 11 second time at 86 mph. You can go all out on your first run and if they don't say anything...great. If they do say something, just do like Dan said, work on your launches and 60ft times, then let up at the end until it is time to go home, then go balls out. Remember it's only $20 to run your car. If it was $200, I would be concerned also. You should have fun anyways. The launching is the hard part and once you master that, anybody can push the gas pedal down till you cross the line. Hope you are not discouraged and decide not to go, it is a fun time. Dan
