Ezareth
Dealer just called me and told me they had a question into the plant a Flatrock yesterday asking where my car was. They were told by the plant today that all V8 2011 Mustangs were now on hold from a faulty carrier bearing which from googling appears to be inside of the rear end. I don't have any more specifics but I'm going to be ringing up the guys at the plant that denied that there was a hold placed on my car. This can't be an easy fix like the Sync Module, so God knows when it will get here now. I hope you guys who already recieved yours don't have problems. This whole process is turning into a nightmare of misinformation. MM can you validate or deny this with your sources?
SPRSNK
I know my GT350 is still in Michigan and hasn't been released yet. I had one of the first ones ordered too...which reminds me..I have to make the first payment next week for a car that hasn't left Ford

Could be a rear end issue, but aren't carrier bearings also used to support the middle connecting section of a two-piece drive shaft? If that indeed turns out to be the case, that might be an easier fix! -Pockdog
Wicked_SVT
This car is starting to become the most frustrating purchase ever. March 30 build and still not here. Hopefully they will get these cars out soon.
PistolWhip
The term carrier bearing usually refers to the two bearings that the rear dif (sometimes referred to as posi unit, differential, ring carrier, etc...) rides on inside the rearend housing. A faulty one on one car presents a handful of issues, but on hundreds or thousands of cars.... well, WOW. Those bearings are pressed onto the carrier housing at the axle inlet, which means they need to be pressed off. They will also need to recheck and most likely reshim the carriers lash adjustments. I'm curious as to how many cars are affected by this and if its not a large majority, if Ford just replaces the entire rear to save time.
kahmann
^Good post with solid info. A buddy of mine just got word this morning that his 2011 Mustang GT was delayed again until June 14th for an 'unknown reason'.
ilmor
Better to have the fix be done now than have to deal with it later!

2011SVT
Hoping the SVT Package cars get exempted for some reason due to the different gears. +1 and enough with the stupid holds already. Ford: Please re-examine your statistical quality control processes. Somebody has a decimal misplaced. Let my people go..... P.S. if there's a TSB, I wonder if I can talk service into just putting in my TruTrac instead
Michael Morris
Talked to the plant this morning. That is NOT why the cars are on HOLD. I do know why they are on HOLD. AA and Ford have found the problem and are now fixing it. Its ONLY on the GTs, NOT the GT500s. From what I understand most of the GT500s are ready to ship, but they are ALOT of Mustangs to ship out! ALOT!!! I will ask again to make sure about the carrier bearing. MM

Ezareth
I will ask again to make sure about the carrier bearing. MM Thanks MM, I've been pulling my hair out (what's left of it) wondering how long this hold was going to delay my shipment.
OneTrickPony
Thanks MM, I've been pulling my hair out (what's left of it) wondering how long this hold was going to delay my shipment. All good things come in time, be patient my friend. The wait will be worth it. If you only knew what I had to go through to get mine you'd be in the hospital, not pulling your hair out. Ezareth
Well my car still appears to "unofficially" be on Quality hold while "Officially" in transit. It is definately still sitting in a lot at the plant.
