1badsho
Our store has an oppertunity to buy 1 or two Herts rent a racers. There are some cars that are being sold at the local Auction and all the cars have under 10,000 miles. My question .. I have no clue what these cars are bringing .. or what they would bring in a auction format. Let me clarify, this is not a Barret jackson ... this is just one of the larger Auction/wholesale houses for all type of cars that dealers go to too replenish inventory and to take stale inventory back and unload them. I would think these cars would be in high demand and the question .... ( i expect bidding to be feverish ) ... what is a car like this worth in a real car auction ... Should we get one .. or all we can get ? Were a smaller store not a metropolitan store dond
Grabber
My thought is that if you get 1 or 2 for say 60K each, then you are going to need to turn a profit on them of about 5 or 10K each so the car will be way over priced and hard to sell. My .02 cents.

Mark25
I would never purchase one of them...Bottom line: they were rentals and despite all the hoopla about how Hertz has the customer sign an agreement to treat the car right...you and I know how rentals are treated...THEY ARE ABUSED! Just go to Edmunds.com and check out their review and tire burning test of the Hertz Shelby GT...they beat the crap out of it...not for me, thanks. At a minimum, the engine, tranny, brakes and tires would have to be replaced...not worth it.
carnut
You might remember the original Hertz mustangs were very unpopular for years, but there numbers were small. In recent years, their value seems to have skyrocketed. If you happened to get one of the new ones with 10,000 miles, they might have been somewhat abused, but there will a lot of good miles left in them. The question is what are these cars worth. I couldn't justify spending more than what a Mustang Shelby GT is priced at, and personally I wouldn't spend that much for a used Mustang. I think about 30k should be the reasonable limit. But some with more money than brains will pay more thinking this car is an investment, not likely. It will have value as a special interest car and will definitely keep some value. crispy23c
I would hold off. I have been intently watching these since they hit the auction block. The first few were asking $85k, 2 sold for around $80. The next few were asking from $71k-$79k. These sat for a while, 1 sold. The next batch they are asking anywhere from $59k to $65k and they aren't moving. All this in about 2 months. So......if you think you can roll the car quick for a reasonble profit, go for it. If you think you can turn $10 or $20k profit, you're dreamin'. Many of these are not moving at the Manheim auctions due to the high reserves. I expect to see an adjustment in reserve at the next Manheim auction, but who knows. Be careful or line up a buyer first. And check ebay. Mark25
Here's another reason you may not want to purchase a Hertz Shelby GT... http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/28/video-m...caught-on-tape/
1badsho
Here's another reason you may not want to purchase a Hertz Shelby GT...http://www.autoblog.com/2006/08/28/video-m...caught-on-tape/ Even with the known abuse these cars will have, they still should have alot of miles left on them. The real issue is pricing. I would expect that they will go for stupid money. I will prob tell our GM to get one if he can get it for under $30,000 .... If not just pass on it dond
