The Shelby should've had cougar style taillights

Recommended Posts

Here are a couple of pictures of the S197 concept.

I wish these taillights would've come on the Shelby. If an aftermarket trunk and light kit was available, I would strongly consider it.

What do you guys think?

Umm, how about NOOOOOO!

They were not attractive on the 69-70 Shelby's in the first place. The rear of the 1970 Mustangs is my all time favorite

With the 2010 and 2011 lights being LED, I really thought they would do something like that on the GT350 to clean it up. With LED lights you don't need as much room to do the modifications since you don't need huge reflector bodies.

It would be easy to do using L.E.D. lights and can be done with no permanent mod to the car. I've been working on a set-up for a while but it's still in the early stages.

I can't see how and have it look OEM...guess we'll all wait and see!

That would require a whole new rear end and trunk lid. I do think it looks very clean in the rendering. Just curious if it would actually look the same up close on a real car or if the lights would end up looking too overpowering for the rest of the back. Again, interesting idea though.

I like the look of the rendering as well - to balance the look: I would just add larger Shelby lettering. For me, that's a home rum. Man, I wish Shelby would ask the buying public their input. - Doc

I agree...the SGT would've looked nice with a different set of rear lights to help distinquish it from the GT. Heck, SA did this in 1967 on the GT350/GT500...Maybe all the NHTSB requirements were a possible obsticle for change...

the concept car reminds me of the Iacocca 45th anniv Mustang, althought it doesn't have the same tail light treatment....

and I do like the way the exhaust exits through the rear valance.

One cool feature of the Iacocca is it's a true fastback/hatchback; at least that's what I heard. The window extends nearly to the end like the 67/67 fastbacks. In any case, it's way too much money !!!

The idea of different tail lights is all cool stuff. However, I’m looking for sequential tail lights. I haven’t found any after market ones that do not sequence once during braking. I looked at the new 2010 Mustang set up. To buy all the components would be way too expensive. The sequential tail lights on the 2010 Mustang do not sequence when braking.

Has anyone found any after market tails lights that do not sequence during braking?

Safe driving to all, keep the rubber side down.

Tom

I think Shelby should have used a different taillamp design also. but I wouldn't mod my car that way. The Shelby GT is still gorgeous as is.

This would have worked also

Would have been nice to use something like this on the current body style

Other interesting ideas on this car also

Somewhere out there is the ability to get these lamps for our cars!!! ?

The GTR was a car that saw light of day...not just a clay model! How the H£LL do we get ahold of these? Any way of figuring out the supplier of these lamps to Ford? I would change these on my 500 immdeiately!!

Are they actually going to make and sale these? Cervini has been showing these off for over a year.

The ad says they hope to have the pre-order and government approval process complete by end-of June 2011. We'll see....

Although I like those taillights, I believe that the Shelby GT is a modern interpretation of the original 65 and 66 shelby which had the regular Mustang taillights. You can see the DNA of the original in our cars. Not really sure why they did not call it the GT 350. I think the newer GT350s and GT500s are more like the 67 and 68 years. Just my .02
