NordicShelby
http://www.shelbystore.com/product-p/z12-cr-gt5-cpr002b.htm Heat exchanger link http://www.shelbystore.com/product-p/z12-cr-cpr001.htm Radiator Link I had recently installed the heat exchanger and Radiator and thought it would be a great idea to install the Ford Racing temp gauge. I love the looks of everything but have a couple questions. I know the factory Thermostat is 195 and I thought that when the Whipple 550 got installed that they put a 160 Thermostat in it. Today the outside Temp is around 79 so it is fairly warm today the temp gauge would range from 190 to 220 I would notice that when I got to stoplights the temp would reach to 220 fairly quickly. Is this normal for the cars temp to flucuate from 190 to 220? I could understand it getting to 220 driving on the track all day but this was the temp just driving around town. I guess I assumed that when we installed the radiator and Heat exchanger that the temp would be around 160 to 180. Here is a picture of the guage I highly recommend that anybody who has supercharged their car get one. I love mine and I love where it is mounted. kahmann
That's a sweet gauge! I dig the location too. Do you have a link to this setup? I need one for sure. As for your t-stat, I've never seen a 160* for these cars. The vast majority of colder t-stats for the S197's are 180* and I've only seen one that is a 170* (built by Reische). That doesn't mean, however, that you're going to run 170* all the time, regardless of the weather conditions. Once you find out which temp your t-stat opens at, you may want to take a look at the low speed and high speed fan settings with your handheld tuner. If a lower temp t-stat was installed, your settings should have been lowered on your fan as well. This is often overlooked, however. Good luck man. NordicShelby
Hey Kahman, I hate to admit it but the bezel to fit the temp gauge is from Rousch Performance here is the link http://store.roushperformance.com/detail.aspx?ID=1076 The guage is right from the ford dealer they got it from Ford racing. http://www.fordracingparts.com/parts/part_details.asp?PartKeyField=10370 Thanks for the tips about the low and high speed fan settings on the tuner I will ask the Tech who installed this to see if he changed that. The bezel is really awesome because it still allows air to flow around the guage. I can't wait until Tulsa to see what the Temp is going to be around the track
NordicShelby
One thing I just thought of is that I still have the hood blanket on and I have read many posts that it should be removed from the car once you install the Whipple so I will let you all know if that makes a difference with the temp in city driving. I also am waiting to hear back if the Ford Whipple Tune can be adjusted so that I can adjust the low and high speed fan settings. If it can't then I will either have to get a new tune on the car or I can just accept that the car will run around 210 to 220 in city drivng which wont hurt anything anyways. I will also try the 170 Thermostat. Had I not installed the guage I would of never ever known any of the true temp readings and with my pickiness I dont know if thats a good thing or a bad thing I guess I can be my own worst enemy sometimes. NordicShelby
Okay I found out the Whipple does send a 160 T-stat with there kits but the mechanic at APPLE VALLY FORD who did the work said that Whipple didn't include the T-STAT so he left the 195 T-STAT in it. I called Whipple and they said the tune that came with the kit is designed for the 160 T-STAT so I guess I have been running hot for the last year so I ordered a 160 T-STAT from whipple for $29.99 plus $15 frickin bucks for shipping now I am bringing my car to a custom Mustang tuner in Shakopee MN to have them install the T-STAT and run the car on the dyno before and after the T-Stat install to see if it makes a difference. I bet this is the problem why my car runs at 220 at 30MPH. You can not adjust the low and high speed fan settings with the Ford Racing Whipple 550 tune. So I am considering on getting a custom tune using a DIABLO Preditor then I can adjust the low and high speed fan settings. I have heard many people say just stay with the Ford Racing Whipple tune becuase its nice and safe and I have heard other people say the only way to go is with a custom tune so which is actually safer and better for our cars? NordicShelby
Here is the 160 T-Stat that Whipple uses in there Kits. I am not paying $15 for shipping from Whipple for one. http://www.motoradusa.com/index.html

The only reason why i could see getting a custom tune would be to squeeze more h.p. out of the car . With a custom tune you might get another 10 or 15 h.p.but with the power we have i don't think you would feel it. The longevity of these motors is probably less already with the supercharger so i think i will leave mine alone. I wanted 500 rwhp bit it dynoed at 490 rwhp. If i want another 10hp then i think i will just add a aluminum flywheel and that should take care of it. Good- Luck.

Red Diver
QUESTIONS??? Why didn't you use the matching Autometer carbon fiber gauge? Is your gauge mechanical or electric? If mechanical how did you route the tube? Is it better to know your engine temp or intercooler temp or both? I really like the location and the fact that your vent duct is still functional. If you did need both temps you could install a second gauge in the other vent. Thanks for posting, I've been wondering about this for some time. It will be interesting to see if the TStat makes a WHP difference... Well now they claim they did put the 160 T-stat in and I think they might have because the car in cooler weather like around 70 or below will run at 170 on the freeway. It still gets up to 220 in city driving. Which I am starting to think is normal.

To be honest I would have rather had all FORD racing gauges. The Autometer fuel pressure gauge has stuck on me a few times. And the lights on the autometer/Shelby gauge really isn't that good IMO. I really like the looks of the FORD guages. Also the autometer/shelby gauge might be too large to fit in the vent hole I paid the Ford dealer to install the gauge so I do not know how they hooked it up. The total cost for the Temp guage and install was a little over $300 The gauge is measuring the engine temp he asked me if I wanted to measure the blower temp but I thought it was more important to measure the engine temp. Yes you could install another guage in the other vent to measure blower temp.
