OneDay...
Hey all! I'm new to the forum but have always been a mustang man. I'm a college graduate of '09 and finally signed with a great company. My first step is pay off my monster student loans (hopefully I'll be able to pay everything off in 18 months if I devote myself to that goal!), but the next step is to save up/buy a 2011 GT500. So I'm a couple years away but I'm a big planner and with the price tag on these babies, I'd like to have some sort of idea on this... First off; Availability. Seeing as everyone has been putting their orders in and it seems allocation numbers are fewer for this upcoming year, and as I said, I'm a solid 2 years from being able to afford this shelby, does anyone think that it would be difficult to pick up a mint condition 2011 in 2 years? I realize there is no good "Yes/No" answer to this but I figured the awesome people on this forum might be able to give me some insight on what to expect 2 years from now wanting to pick up a mint condition shelby... Secondly; Insurance costs. I've just messed around with online insurance quotes and everything I've got back seems significantly lower than I thought it would be (which is awesome!!), but if anyone around my criteria is willing to comment on their insurance costs, I'd appreciate it! I'm 23 now (so 25 when I buy it) with a clean driving record and real solid credit line. I'm not sure what else would really matter but if anyone could comment, that'd be great! I can't remember my last question so I'll save that for later! :fool: So if anyone can help out (mainly with my availability anxieties!), I'd really appreciate it! The worst part about loving this car so much is not having one!

The worst part about loving this car so much is not having one! You'll likely be able to find one in 2 years sitting on a showroom floor somewhere, but it's likely to be a holdout dealership trying to put some markup into it. You're probably better off getting a 2012 by then. On the Insurance I was quoted $250 (I'm 30) every 6 months for my convertible witha $500 deductible and 7500(minimum they'd rate) yearly mileage plus it was my second car and rated for a "pleasure" car. Torch40
Welcome to the forum. In my opinion availability will not be a problem. Insurance, price of car two years from now, who knows? One thing for sure, you'll get plenty of great information for whatever Shelby you end up buying.
OneDay...
So you really think availability won't be an issue? I saw that there were over 4k Shelbys produced for 2010, but there was only around 1500 Shelbys for 2011. That's a BIG drop in production! I'm just trying to figure out if I'll have to sell my soul to the devil in order to get one of these sooner than later, or if it really won't be an issue. By the low production numbers though, it definitely worries me a bit.
SicShelby
Keep in mind the '07-'09 was supposed to be limited in production as well. I honestly don't think you'll have a problem finding one in another year or two. If anything, Michael Morris? here on TS can find you one, no problem, and give you a good deal. I've seen a lot of threads and posts about members going through him to get their car. Good luck! You'll get it!

Torched10
a dealer here in Atl just sold 2 used Shelbys, one to a TS member, with less than 1000 miles on them--im sure therell be similar deals when youre ready---stay in touch with Michael, also, the 2010s are nice cars as well

Slow down, don't worry about production nos. yet. The run just started and early to boot. They shouldn't be hard to find when you are ready. Look at how many "mint" 07-10's you can find. Should be the same with '11, always someone who "needs" to sell. Plus the '12 will be out by then and you will probably want it instead.

I know it's been addressed before about the production numbers that you mentioned...but just to give you an idea of the 2010 vs. 2011 model year quantities - This time last year for 2010 model year - 364 GT500's produced (coupes and convertibles) This current year for 2011 model year - 1,537 GT500's produced (coupes and convertibles) So if the numbers for the 2011 keep up like they are it could easily run to near 7,000 to 8,000 cars. OneDay...
Thanks for the replies all! I definitely appreciate the insight! Just got home from my first day of work at JPM and am super pumped. I found out they have somewhat of a "deal" worked out with some of the big auto companies, Ford included, where they apparently sell employees the car at invoice. Hopefully this holds true for the Shelby and not just a Focus or something...
