I Love My Shelby

My Story,

I traded in my 2005 GT for the Shelby last July, I was in the market for a new car and I drove to the dealership to look at 2009/10 GT’s and saw 07SGT0517 sitting on the lot and fell in love. A few days later I managed to get the dealership to give me 15,500 for my basically stock 05 with 65,000 miles on it, and got the Shelby for 26K out the door with 9K miles. So I was only out 10,500 in loans for this thing.

Anyway flash forward almost a year, I still love this car as much as I did the day I bought it. However, if I had only known the issues with stripes, hood scoop, and hood pins. My original hoop scoop has lifted from the hood almost 1/2 inch in places, all the way around the edge. The paint is bubbling all the way around the hood pins, almost 2 inches out from the edges in some places. And now my stripes are literally contracting. I will try to post pictures later this evening. The strips have contracted up to 3/8’s of an inch in places, leaving behind the adhesive and some small flakes of the silver in the stripes. And now to top that off the stripes have 1 inch cracks in them on the roof... for an 8,000 dollar upgrade Shelby sure knows how to take care of a car.

Ok, now that I have gotten that off my chest... I finally got a dealership to approve my hood scoop, pins, and stripes on the hood replaced. They are evening replacing the whole hood, because I apparently have the worst iron contamination the dealer has ever seen, I literally have 10+ spots of rust coming up under the clear coat all over the hood, not the mention the rest of the car...but thats another fight I am working on right now.

I don’t want these stripes back on the car... they are crap. Can any of you provide me a color code to use if I can manage to get the money together to get the stripes painted on?

Thanks for any info you can get me,

Mike

If you have rust on the hood you have more problems then you know of..... the hoods are aluminum. I'm sure it's corrosion, that has been documented. Good luck with you fix, my scoop came out awesome!

I removed my stripes also. I had the scoop replaced by Shelby. I painted my scoop all black like the car, and had it reinstalled without the rivets and bolts. I have received many positive compliments on the car since I have "cleaned" it up! Good Luck with your repairs.

SGT3834 will be 3 yrs old this Sept. 48,000 miles / black / 5 speed / GT500 rear spoiler / side window louvers / lower front grill / Pype Bombs.

Nothing gathers the attention like a Shelby GT in Alabama. People absolutely love this car The GT 500 might have more grunt, but it does not have the DNA. I drive it every day, rain or shine and get 25+ MPG even with my foot in the throttle at every opportunity. Yes, the stripes are spotted and look shabby, evidently not enough for me to wring my hands in dispare. One of these days I'll get them replaced, removed, painted, whatever.I have never owned a more visable vehicle; all the Porsches, BMW's / Mercedes, Audi TT, were nice, but for a true ego trip, this is the absolute most bang for the buck I have ever had the pleasure to own.

post-20396-12767336137_thumb.jpgi dont think there is a paint code for vinyl stripes but any paint jobber or the shop that will do your painting should have no problem matching the color

i been useing KUSTOM SHOP/ tcpglobal bright silver paint and its as close to a match that will get over the counter

Congrats on getting your Shelby! I know the issues are aggravating, but it looks like you are going to get taken care of. You have a one of a kind car that will give you more enjoyment than you can imagine, so take the problems you have experienced in stride as the rest of the car is rock solid. Let us know how things work out.

I'm having my stripes painted on and my Deep Draw hood mounted and painted as well. Here's the paint code that matched the stripes

on 08SGT1596. Ford 2009 YN Silver Metallic B/C.

I'm not sure if the stripes are the same between the 07 and 08 SGT's. It was a perfect match in my case. Hope this helps.

My mechanic is having a little bit of trouble with the hood. The anchornuts on the hood that the mounting bolts for the hood hinge mount to is set a little bit aft as to prevent the hood from sitting perfectly on the car. With any luck I'll have my car back sometime next week.

Sorry about the quality of the pics. Took it with my iPhone.

An update to an old thread.... I got my new hood scoop (dealer cracked it while riveting it to the hood), I decided to go stripeless like stormracer, SAI didn't issue new hood plates for the hood pins... The dealership bent my hood... And my stripes still haven't showed up... And some how I still look back at my car everytime I park it. So now in August I need to schedule some time to take my car in.

Did you reclear the entire car when the stripes were painted on? It looks like it will be awesome when completed.
