Hello all, I have to express my concerns here before I make a drastic decision to sell my 2009 GT500 and get a z06.

First with the 300hp V6 and the GT350 models coming out, makes my shelby seem not so special. I love my shelby and I have put 28000 miles on it since Jan 2009. It is a joy to drive and sweet to look at. It gets attention everywhere it goes even if it is dirty. But what about the horsepwer rating of 540. If the V6 has 300 hp you can imagine what the new V8 model will have. With a few bolt on's they will be pushing Gt500 Hp. I know we can bolt on extra Hp for the Gt500 but man I'm discouraged when I think of this. I think it is time for a z06 and some serious Hp.What do you think? please help.

Are you concerned only about HP, exclusivity (you say not so special), or both.

Sure the Corvette is a well engineered car, but they're like a-holes, everyone got one! so to me zero exclusivity (unless you're taking ZR-1), plus no back seat, we (my family) the 4 of us to go out in the Shelby on occasion, so thats a bonus.

Assuming your Gt500 is paid for, then you can spend a few ducketts on mods instead of starting over with another car...

However, if a ZO6 is really what you want, then we can't help you

That said, there is no American automotive icon is a big as the Shelby name, from racing in the late 50's to building cars in the 10's

I think you'll run into the same type of marketing with GM & their Vets including the ZO6. Next year they will be stronger, faster and more nimble. It's marketing 101. Pretty soon your going to be changing cars like you change your underwear...often. At some point you have to be happy with what you have (or I hope you will be). Maybe your questions is... Which platform would be better as far as modular design / modifications etc. It sounds like you may not be happy for long with anything perfomance wise (becuase of the mfgs consistent strive for something better to keep up or beat the competition), so see what has the most long term potential?

I agree, you'll never be satisfied because there's always a "new & improved" model just on the horizon. Corvettes are not unique, but they are fast and handle well. Shelby's, regardless of hp, model or year, are unique, attract attention (as you said), and are a hoot to drive! I really don't care if hemi's are putting out 600 ponies and Vettes are being given away with your tax return, I'm not interested in either. Whether you're a fan or not, you cannot deny that there is no automotive equivalent to the Shelby name on a car.

Zo6's are awesome piece of engineering, light, fast, 25mpg, lambo killer and everything... but what about the new Camaro Z28 with 550hp/550 torque which is going to hit the market later this year, Z28 with few bolt on's will sure beat the Zo6. Does that discourage a Zo6 owner? maybe, but If you really want a corvette, wait 1 or 2 years for the next generation, they say they are going be even lighter around 3100 pounds and they are going to have zr1's lovely magnetic ride suspension. Drive your Shelby until then and trade it with 2013 zo6, that's what I'm going to do...

With all due respect, I was just checking out your mod list. You may wish to try buying fewer head rest covers and perhaps invest in a pulley and CAI. Just sayin'.

But, if you'd like to purchase something from Government Motors, buy the Z06 then buzz on over here for a weekend. I'll show you around, and introduce you to a drag strip or two around here.

Bring cash.

The LS7 block will not handle the mods that a 5.4 will handle. It may be a better all around car, BUT you are limited to mods..........unless thats not your thing?

I almost bought a 06 Z06 last year, but in the end bought the Shelby. I think the Shelby has more "exclusivity" than a Corvette.

I will own a Z06 eventually, but for now I am not ready to trade in my tshirts for hawiian shirts and gold chains. Good luck with your endeavor!

Sounds good. I currently own a 2003 50th anniversarry corvette and I thinking about selling it or my GT500 and buying a z06. I just don't know which way to go. Thanks and good luck.

Thanks for the invite. Love the dragstrips so I think I might just bring my Plymouth Duster instead.

Why not do the next best thing with your Shelby, take it on a road course as it is a blast to drive on the track. Or better yet, bring your Corvette to VIR at the end of the month?

Besides, horsepower isn't everything when it comes to the fun factor and since you live in TN, you're not that far away from VA.

Well you didn'y say you already have a 03 Vette. Sell the 03 and buy a used Z in the mid 40's and Keep the Shelby.Duh.

Orrrrrrr......Just put a Twin Screw SC on your Shelby and be done with it....Decisions decisions.

That's the way I'am leaning.

Lets see some pics of the Duster!

I had a 71 numbers matching 340 Duster, what a fun car that was !! Mopar Power!

At least you have good taste in cars.

I love the duster it's my special project, I got a steal of a deal, picked it up at a abandoned vehicle auction. Somebody lost a good car.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Z06 puts out 505HP. Thats only 5 more than you have stock.

And it costs $74,285 base and fully optioned goes for $85,335

A 2011 GT500 convertible starts at $53,645 and maxes out at $60,537

So you could get a fully loaded 2011 GT500 and have about $14,000 to put in it.

Or you could buy a fully loaded Mustang GT (including glass roof) for about $42,000 and have $32,000 to put into it! Or you could buy a GT AND a V6 AND a Suzuki Hayabusa 1300!

I'm just trying to keep you from the dark side. hysterical.gif
