Realistic Re sell price?

Recommended Posts

I've got the bug real bad to jump through the hoops and pick up a 2011 convertible but can't quite swing two Shelby's at once. I have a white with black stripe and red interior coupe, 08. 16k miles, pully, off road x pipe, c&l cold air, sct tuner custom tuned by JMS, lowered with steeda springs and magnalflow mufflers out back. The car is perfect inside and out, never had any clutch issues so no TSB done. I see the values all over the place on e-bay and other forums, so I just thought I would put a feeler out there and see what some of you guys who are more plugged in think my car might bring. I just can't stomach the thought of trying to trade her in and listen to how bad I'm gonna get screwed. I've never had her on the track, and most of the miles are from driving to shows and cruise ins out of town. Whaddya think?

I had recently gotten the test drive bug after buying my wife a 2010 SRX. So I've driven almost all of the super sedans (M5, E63 AMG, CTS V , Lexus IS-F and even an Audi S5 and A4). The trade in values I've been offered have been between 30-32K and mines an 07 with simular mileage as yours. All of the used ones in my area Washington DC Metro are advertised for 35-40K depending on year and mileage. Mods don't seem to matter unless you sell it on here to an enthusiast. I see the price of the 2011 is around 55K for the permance pack so to me I'm happy with my 560RWHP 07 for the extra coin. Although the E63 would be my choice of all the others I've driven.

A friend, who dealt in cars for decades, once told me, "You can get any price you want, if you get it in front of the right people." Dealers and most of the buying public aren't going to give a rip about your mods....it may even turn some people off. So, if you want to get your money back (or some portion of it) on them, you'll be much better off selling it outright, hopefully, to an enthusiast--like on here. Otherwise, you'll be looking at Kelly Blue Book, NADA, etc. trade in values. Yeah, some may give you credit because it's a "special" car, but most are going to give you as little as possible. I've found with almost every car I've sold in the last 10 years, you're much better off selling outright. Yeah, it's a hassle--advertising and dealing with the tire kickers and wannabes, but it's worth it in the $$$.

Good luck!

thanks for the input guys, it's always tough selling a car your emotionally attached to, so I don't want to advertise it at an unrealistic price. I know the trade in game very well and will not do that with this car. I was thinking around 40k would be right, but I might be a little high, not sure. For what it's worth, this is a fairly rare color combo with the black stripes and red interior, I believe only 138 in this combo were produced.

That's a prime example of something that only an enthusiast would appreciate. In a trade-in situation, nobody cares. Yeah, sell it on your own......

Good Luck!
