TheWanderer316
I had a J&M double adj. UCA, J&M double adj panhard bar, and J&M LCA installed about a week ago. I am still getting the loud bang when popping the clutch, I thought installing these parts gets rid of that? Also, I noticed the rear driver side wheel sticks out past the fender, while the passenger wheel is in the fender. Does the panhard bar need to be adjusted to fix that? Are these problems caused by the mechanic who installed these improperly or is there other parts i need to purchase to fix the loud bang or to get the rear wheels aligned. Also, the mechanic didn't torque the parts, used an impact gun because he said they needed to be as tight as possible. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. TheWanderer316
Car is on the lift right now and the mechanic said that the loud bang is from the body hitting the "stoppers" He said if they are removed, there is nothing keeping the car from bottoming out. I get the LOUD BANG when speed shifting from 1st to 2nd too. It is very pronounced and can be startling. When I say loud, I mean L-O-U-D! (and solid) At first I thought it sounded like the driveshaft hitting the tunnel but like your tech, I've narrowed it down to the stoppers bottoming. In fact, one of the stoppers (left side) shows signs of slight bending (cracked paint). A rear shock with more compression valving is in store for my car, probably the FRPP Handling Pack. ilmor
I don't know about the banging issue, but your mechanic needs to do the adjustable panhard bar adjustment so that your rear end is centered. The instructions for the panhard bar show how to do this. Also, it is not correct to use an impact to tighten the lower control arm bolts. The bolts should be torqued properly with the suspension loaded. Again, this is explained in the instructions. I know all this because a friend and I recently installed the J&M adj. panhard bar and control arms on mine. Maybe instructions didn't come w/ your parts? edit - you can click on the links in my sig to see which parts I installed.

Are you referring to those orange bump-stops on the axle on one side of the rear springs?
SicShelby
Don't know how to remedy the banging, but absolutely, you need to have the rear end adjusted ASAP - i.e. adjust that panhard bar and bring your rear end in to alignment. See if that helps with the banging too.

Directions and all were there, but he chose to not look at them and do everything his own way. I didn't argue because the install was free, but I wish I just paid someone who knew what they were doing. I'm trying to look for the directions now so I can adjust the panhard bar myself. Are there instructions online that you know of? Are you referring to those orange bump-stops on the axle on one side of the rear springs? Yes that is them, I read on some other forums that those cause a banging noise, but I don't see how, as they are just a type of foam. I cut off the head of them as everybody said to do so, and when the weather is better, i'll see if that resolves the issue, doubt it though.
