So....I know it has been asked before...and I did a search however to get things all in one thread I wanted to go ahead and ask. Things are always changing as new stuff comes out. Also new places so, who do you use for your detail stuff? So here are the following areas I wanted some information. I have alot of stuff but, I would like to see what everyone uses and thier results. Would use it again? Or would you know and why?

What do you for wash soap?

What type of mitt or sponge

Sealant?

Wax?

Wheel Cleaner? Wheel Sealant?

Let me know guys...I want to get to doing a super detail!

Have any of you tried the new Armor All for wheels? Does it work as well as it shows in the commercial (of course it does, stupid question!)? Looking for some way to keep these blasted wheels looking good......

I just took off my wheels and put a coat of the Armor All Wheel Protectant I have only driven it a couple of times since but I can tell they seem to be staying clean, so far so good.

I've tried a lot of stuff and have fell in love with this wash. Throw it in a foam gun and its even better.

http://www.chemicalguys.com/Daily_car_wash_shampoos_CITRUS_BASED_p/cws_302_clear.htm

Dry it with a air dryer, leafblower works wonders, no water spots, doesn't strip wax, and shines like no tomorrow.

If you own a dark color car, you have to give this a try. A friend let me use it and it amazed the crap out of me.

What do you for wash soap? Megs NXT or Gold Class

What type of mitt or sponge Micro Fiber Sponge with scrubbing net on back

Sealant? Megs #7 Glaze

Wax? Megs #26 Yellow tech wax or Megs NXT wax followed by Ultimate Quick detailer or Megs Last touch

Wheel Cleaner? Wheel Sealant? I never use wheel cleaner products even if they say "safe for all wheels". I use hot soap and water with a microfiber wheel brush, followed by Megs Cleaner Wax and then by Quick Detailer.

Tires I use Megs Tire foam with hot shine, spray on and leave it just wipe off excess on the rims.

When I first bought the car I let the paint cure 6 months before waxing it, then I washed it good with Dawn to remove anything that was on it. Clay barred top surface areas, then layed down 4 coats of ICE paste over a couple days with a good buffer. The paint looked completely different, even it being white.

I touch up the wax with ICE liquid on the leading edges from time to time. I use the ICE liquid on EVERYTHING under the hood. It works great.

What do you for wash soap? ICE Car Wash and Adam's Polish Car Wash with a MR. Clean car wash sprayer

What type of mitt or sponge I use a horse hair brush on the car, I use Adam's Detail Sponge for the tires and plastic.

Sealant? ICE Paste, but don't forget to use a good "real" clay bar first, you won't be sorry.

Wax? ICE Paste with a Craftsman buffer with polish pad and buffing pad.

Wheel Cleaner? Eagle One AtoZ Wheel Cleaner

Wheel Sealant? Armor All

Glass Perfect Glass with a micro fiber towel for first wipe then a "flour sack" cotton bar towel to dry

Interior Kiwi saddle soap for cleaning, mink oil on leather once a year. Daily cleaning, ICE Interior and Adam's Detail Leather, Vinyl & Rubber Dressing.

Head and Tail Light Bezels These are platic and will scratch if not taken very good car of. I ONLY use PRIST Plastic Cleaner, you can get it at most airports or general avaition aircraft supply.

Heavy duty bug removal If you live in the south, you know how a short drive this time of year can mean hours of cleaning the front of your car and perhaps staining the paint. You can eliminate this very easily. Before washing, make a small paste of warm water and baking soda, place this on a wet wash rag and dab it on the front of your car over all the bugs, don't scrub, just dab it on good, let it sit a couple, three minutes and then with the rag rinsed and very wet, simply wipe off. Bug guts mostly acid based, baking soda neturalizes it and is also a very very low abrasive. Rinse very well a couple time then wash. DARK CAR OWNERS, TRY A TEST AREA FIRST, YOU MAY NOT LIKE RINSING ALL THE baking soda off, but once you do this and see how easy it is and how it saves your paint, you'll be hooked!

Ice for everything & Lexol leather conditioner 2-3x a year (not a daily driver)

The inbetween wax/polish, spray on Ice detailer & wipe off is a must and makes it looked polished very easily.

I use a Leaf blower for the pollen & dust.

Zaino as well for me. Many Great Products out there which you will NOT find at your corner store (Ice was a Greasy Joke to me-imho). Suggest doing an Internet search on Auto Detailing Forum's and TRYING to (will make your head spin I'm telling you) educate yourself the best that you can and go from there. Good Luck!!!!!

How do I get ahold of Showcar Steve? What is his forum name?

I have for years checked out several detailing forums. Biggest issue is they say how good certain products are.....which may be true...however I like to hear from my fellow Shelby owners what you used and your thoughts. Since we all have the same cars....I want to use what my fellow owners feel best.

My biggest issue is I have to go to a freaking pay wash thing which means I generally have to rush the wash part due to people waiting. So..if I did not have that it would be alot easier..but, hopefully soon....I live in apartment which I hope to change real soon!

  • 2 weeks later...

Let me know guys...I want to get to doing a super detail!

I use a variety of products and jump back and forth on some just for a change:

  • What do you for wash soap?

Meguiars NXT Wash Soap (Great suds and cleaning power - leaves a somewhat shiny appearance)

Meguiars Ultimate Wash and Wax (a lot less suds and good cleaning power - leaves an extremely shiny surface)

  • What type of mitt or sponge

No mit or sponge for me. I use a small microfiber towel from Meguiars - easy to get into all areas.

  • Sealant?

Meguiars NXT Liquid (Great immediate shiny appearance, extremely easy to wipe off and apply - doesn't last for months however)

Zaino Show Car Polish (Just recently starting using an old bottle of this I had for no reason. Got to say that I re-evaluated my opinion of Zaino. I was never impressed with it in the past - however, it seems to be working great. Excellent shine, long lasting, easy to apply and remove, doesn't leave any white residue in cracks - only drawback is the drying time is a bit longer than traditional polishes and waxes)

  • Wax?

no traditional waxes for me

  • Wheel Cleaner?

no wheel cleaners for me...just use the car wash soap

  • Wheel Sealant?

I just use the car sealant polish on the wheels too.

  • Tire dressing?

Meguiars endurance (probably one of the best car care products ever made, lasts forever! Medium shine when applied, doesn't sling off, a little goes a long way! Can't recommend this enough.)

  • Quick detailers or Spray wax?

Meguiars ultimate quik detailer (Leaves the surface super smooth and shiny)

Meguiars ultimate quik wax (As good as the quik detailer is, the quik wax is twice as good! Love this stuff - right up there with endurance as a product that makes you stop looking for something better in a particular aspect of car care! Leaves just an incredible shine and smoothness - easy wipe on/ wipe off, no waiting!)

Threads like these have little to no value. Your going to get multiple replies on what people perceive as "the best" and they will defend their choice to the end. Much like the "What oil do you use?" threads that show up weekly.

While the product choice is important. Application and usage is even more important. There are many quality products out there and most are very similar. Focus on a quality product and learn how to use it properly. Like motor oil, no one has recently reinvented the wheel concerning waxes!

I use http://www.griotsgarage.com/ products and have been very happy with the results. I've learned to use them to obtain the best results possible. The same could be done with any of the products that have been mentioned so far.

Just used the Adam's Rubber and Tire dressing for the first time. Just the right amount of sheen if you want to dress your tire. Although the HD sponges I bought aren't quite what they claim. 8 tires and one is already coming apart some.

A very old skool method for dressing your tire and give it that old skool look for a show (read: extra judging points) is to clean the tire well then with a terry rag, scrub it down good with kerosine or JetA fuel. Gives it a natural sheen and the tire is extremely clean to the touch.

If that is the case then why did you tell me what you used? Yes and quite frankly I already know how to do detailing really well but, there are alot of new products out there that work very well. I'll disagree too...there have been alot of new names out there with new things with wax, sealant, etc. I mean like ICE..seems to be a great product but, previously I would have bought NOTHING that turte wax made. And yes...method and application is for sure a big part of it. However different products work better on different color color cars.

Jeez..either state what you like or state nothing at all...don't comment how worthless the thread is as I as the OP disagree....

Re read my post moron! I said then WHY did you tell me what you used? Meaning if this is a worthless thread then what does it matter what you use? Your opinion...based upon your comment is just as worthless as everyone else's.

My comment after that was saying basically state what you like as you did without all the BS first..or state nothing at all.

Got it now?

Like people say...if you don't have something to say that is helpful just don't post. I mean if this is a worthless thread why did you even open to read?

Once again thanks to everyone else for your thoughts. I feel there have been some new developments in the car care product arena. Also some products work others do not. I would prefer to spend my money on those that have been tried and true!

What do you for wash soap? Optimum ONR

What type of mitt or sponge? Whatever is softest but generally microfiber.

Sealant / Wax ? Depends on what car and what color I'm working with. Also depends on if the car is a daily driver or garage queen. But my short list is as follows:

Blackfire Wet Diamond

Clearkote Carnuba Moose

Zaino Z2 and Z5

Pinnacle Souveran

Wheel Cleaner? None but the ONR, I've had problems long ago with cleaners interfering with brake pads (ceramic especially) so I never use anything harsh.

Wheel Sealant? Generally whatever I seal the car with but I've been using Armor All's Wheel protectant and really like that for brake dust.
