shelbybev
Just bought my SGT, putting on snake window scoops then looking at shorty headers. Anybody gone there. Did they hook up easily and do you have to re-tune after wards.
AstroDan
I have no answers for your questions, but I'm sure a few will chime-in shortly. In the meantime, welcome to team Shelby. Note...pictures are a must! Dan
LuLu
Two years ago, I purchased the "Pypes" shorty headers from Blue Oval on ebay. I was experimenting with LuLu to see what results I should expect from shortys vs. mid length and full length tuned headers. The "Pypes" were also the cheapest available at that time (229.00 + shipping and tax) and they were made of T-304 polished stainless steel. Another 100 bucks on the install, and it all seemed a fair deal at the time. Before and after dynos revealed 12 RWHP and 8 RWTQ, again not a bad bang for the buck. I later added a muffler delete system (worked up by Midas) for another 100 bucks, and LuLu sounded simply awesome. It felt like a tad more power was on tap, but I didn't dyno again to find out. Numbers are in my sig. The shortys have since been replaced will full length tuned headers, but I do not feel this is a good investment on a otherwise bone stock 4.6L-3V. The shortys work, and for a lot less money. Hope this helps, happy motoring.
RACERX009
Just bought my SGT, putting on snake window scoops then looking at shorty headers. Anybody gone there. Did they hook up easily and do you have to re-tune after wards. I installed shorties my dealer did it they yanked my motor out half way to do them. But with patients you can do them and far as a difference the motor felt more responsive. The exhaust got louder but change my mufflers to cherry bomb extreme's and with the hotrod cam;s it sound like the old day's of muscle. I love the SCT tuner when, I go to car shows the car idle gets drop a couple of notch's and the car is rocking like 2 teenagers in the back seat. LuLu
More details on shorty header install... The starter has to be dropped out, and one of the engine mounts has to be unbolted and the engine jacked up about one inch (sorry I don't remember which side, but I would guess the driver's side). Other than that, the Pypes shortys slipped right into place, no other tooling required. Bolted right up to stock mountings and exhaust. New header to head gaskets advised. stngfever
I installed shorty's on mine. I love the sound and slight seat of the pants increase. Not to mention getting rid of the eye sore of rust under the hood! As for installation, they do take a little time to do, but not that difficult. While it may seem intimidating, it is a ton easier to unbolt both flanges first, then support the tranny, drop the tranny bracket (this will get the cats out of the way), disconnect steering shaft, unbolt the top nut for both motor mounts, remove battery and tray, jack motor up ~ 1" - 2", remove motor mounts from block, remove manifolds, Install in reverse order. All this done on mine with no lift (jack stands). And I didn't have to remove the starter.
slbgtsc
Just bought my SGT, putting on snake window scoops then looking at shorty headers. Anybody gone there. Did they hook up easily and do you have to re-tune after wards. My car is SC'd so you may have some different issues if you are NA. I picked up 11-15Hp/TQ with the Shorty tuned length BBK's and an offroad xpipe setup. No change in my tune was required. I did not do the install. Certainly liked the look and sound better than stock. I took them off in December and went with LT's and an off road xpipe. Have not dyno'd it yet, my butt dyno detects more throttle response. The dyno will be the telling factor, as well as the 1/4 times. I'll post my new dyno number once I get them. I did my own LT install with four jack stands in my garage. Took my time removed the starter, and motor mounts as you have much better access to the header bolts. It was winter the car wasn't going anywhere so I took my time. Not fun but not the worst thing I've done either. If it were me I would personally wait and do LT's if you are going to spend the money. There was a good articel in one of the car magazines on a SC'd S197. They started with shorties, then moved to a highflow catted system with the shorties and finally with a catted long tube setup and the LT's brought the most to the table in HP/TQ numbers. I think if I were NA LT's and gears would be my first move.
eagleridge4
I had JBA ceramic coated shorties on before Shelby removed them for my GT/SC upgrade. Personally, I wouldn't recommend adding them. Not a lot of bang for the cost and trouble. I actually like the sound better with it back to the stock manifold. They were good for about 5 to 10 rwhp based on my dyno results. I think there's better ways to spend your time and money. Just my opinion though.
