MichaelP
Hi- Im hauling my car up to Watkins Glen this weekend. I have a UHAUL auto transport and there is webbing at front to hold front tires in place and two safety chains, one if front and one in back... The UHAUL rep. said to just wrap safety chains around rear axle a couple of times... Is this ok? Did not exactly sound correct to me....but, I cant think of any other place to wrap chain. I dont think the chains acutally hold car in place....they are there in case the webbing on front tires break.... Thanks! Mike
tdusseau
You mean like this? lol Just take care not to wrap any wires or lines, and everything will be just fine. Besides you may actually clean off some of the rust. :happy feet: Todd
MichaelP
Great! Thanks Todd. The picture is very helpful. Rusty butt is embarrassing for us owners... M.
interceptor
Personally i use soft ratchet straps and soft loop straps around the rear axle. You can use a loop strap on the axle then hook a safety chain to that.Tractor supply or a trailer store have them.By the way what's going on at watkins?, i'm from the area and opening weekend was last weekend, i was there. 03reptile
Interceptor is exactly right. Don't use the chain on the axle. My friend & I transport his vintage BMWs to various shows on the East coast and we've become very adept at doing this w/o marring the car's undercarriage. Use the straps as indicated. Metal on metal....... not a good idea.
