CANADA GUY
; If you have dragged the coupe with the stock 285/35/19 Goodyears; what tire pressure gave the best hookup and was still safe ?I know they are not the best tire ; but what if any experimenting have you done and what results did you get ?? GOTVENOMGT500
I'm not sure how advanced the traction control and Tire Pressure Sensors (TPS) are on the GT500 but does anyone know if the pressure is below a certain PSI will it cut timing? I have a few friends with Vettes that were telling me their system will. Anyway times I've been at the strip with friends they've had luck running 20-22 PSI and also another friend that has good luck with as low as 15-17. From what I know you want them to wrinkle and go Picture is not me, just a launch I always thought was awesome. :happy feet:

twobjshelbys
Look at how the rear tire is almost slipping. It's distorted from the grip/torque. Very cool photo!

No tpms went off.Just wondering how low I CAN go without problems. 18 psi ?????

Good question of how low every car is different also depending on tire size and side wall size/flex.

COBRA SCOTTY
When running a street radial as opposed to a drag radial the opposite is in effect. If your reccomended tire psi is 32lbs then you want to run 5psi more so that would be 37psi ; the reasoning is a street or non drag tire is unable to squat like a slick or drag radial. So if you add an extra 5psi over the normal psi the tire bulges in the middle of the tread or contact patch and allows the most traction. You also do not want to hit the water box or do any type of burnout ; it will only make your street tire slicker and you will loose traction. CANADA GUY
12..9 for 1/4?? sounds high, even for stock car--since youre Canadian, what was the distance for the drag It was a 1/4 mile but my reaction time was 1.0209 . 1/8 mile et was 8.5 at 87.88 mph into a 25 mph headwind. Scotty okay ; that 's why why time was longer 13.7 using the water box.I thought a lower pressure would allow a bigger contact patch. Will try 37 psi next time out. You got it , just drive around the waterbox and then try to line up your cars tires in the staging area were there is tire rubber laid down on the track from the previous racers car. Goodluck at the track , I am sure this will help. Scotty

Actually the way the timer works, the ET doesnt start till you leave the start line, so elapsed time is 12.9 + your reaction times. Really, i wasnt trying to be funny or critical, i was curious if Canada uses a metric quarter mile, like maybe 400M,which now that i think about it is a quarter mile, since 1600m equals a mile. You must have spinning tires down the track to run a 12.

I USED TO RACE FOR FORD IN 1970-71 with a scj 428.The gt 500 was about 15 degrees from straight at the 3-4 shift. A little scary even for a guy who has run 11.6's at 125.
