How far can you ride a bicycle

Recommended Posts

Last weekend I lead the Mustang Club of Houston on a cruise through the back roads of Texas in my Shelby GT/CS. This weekend I will be on some of those same roads and will be going a much longer distance on a bicycle. I am riding the MS150 bike ride from Houston to Austin to raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. It is the largest organized bike ride in the world. Over 12,000 participants will ride 186 miles in two days. My daughter and I are 2 of them. Sounds kind of crazy, but you know; I can do this, people with MS can only wish they had a chance to do it. If you would like, I am asking Team Shelby members to support me in this ride by making a donation to the National MS Society at this link

Thank you

Enjoy the ride! It looks to be a great weekend for a ride. I have several friends that have done the MS150 and they have said that it is a first class ride with tons of support! I've done my share of long rides, but not the MS150. Make sure you eat before you are hungry and drink before you are thirsty :)!

So how did it go?

I'll be riding the Oklahoma MS Bike ride in September from Tulsa to the state capitol in OKC. A great cause indeed. My late mother is always my motivation for that ride.

May 1st, though, I'll be riding a bike almost the opposite direction of your route. We'll be starting in Austin and ending in Shiner (100 miles). The ride's entry fees benefit the American Cancer Society (no fund raising for this one); but this time I'm really just interested in the free beer at the finish line................which would be at the Spoetzel Brewery  :happy feet:

Hey Jeff, good to hear from you. Our ride went great! We got a little wet the first day but it was just a few sprinkles, nothing major. The rest of the ride was great! Nice to hear your doing one also.

I have always wanted to do that Shiner ride; but I always sneaks up on me and I never had made it. I forgot about it this year too and I see it's on my wife's B-day, so I'll have to pass it up again.

How was the rest of your trip to Texas? Did the Terlingua Flutist decide on a place nearby?

What better a birthday gift than an hundred mile ride on a tandem! She'll love you for it :hysterical:

We visited U of H that next day and then went to Austin to UT on Thursday. The daughter really liked the UT campus and music facilities. So far Rice is still at the top of the wish list, followed closely by UT. But they only admit 2 to 3 new students per year (undergrad, graduate & doctoral combined). So if no one is graduating or leaving, there are no spots available. Flute is one of the most competitive instruments out there. So Houston is one of the more likely destinations. But we're visiting Stillwater tomorrow (OSU) and they have a young "hot-shot" doctor of music (from Stoneybrook) that may be worth studying under, although they have not typically been known for their school of music. Failing acceptance into Rice, It all boils down to who offers the best scholarship package with the best opportunity for entrance into a top teir post-graduate program.

You may have already checked out these schools, but Texas Tech and North Texas State may be worth checking into. A friend's daughter who is an outstanding sax player has done extremely well with music at TT. And North Texas' music dept has had a great reputation for years. BTW, in no way am I promoting TT. I can't stand there athletic programs :).
