There is a big black SNAKE in my garage!

WOW! Well, Ive finally got my hands on this incredible car. I, like many of you, pined for and waited for a long time to get this car. I have been thinking of this car for years, back when first rumors of its development back in 2004 I think. I was thinking of buying a 2004 SVT cobra but decided to wait for this one instead. Anyway, today that wait was ended. There's a big black snake in my garage!

As many have heard me say in other threads, I decided to pay the ADM after trying in vain to get some kind of break. Fact is, GT500s in these parts are commanding some serious money unless you have some "in" to get one, or got in real early. I didn't get in early enough despite trying in May to get on a dealer list. The small and mid sized dealers, even the one I bought 2 previous Stang GT's and a E250 van from over the years wouldn't even take a deposit. They said "man you gonna be 35th on the list, you'll just never get a car here so we wont waste your time or money". I appreciate that.

So, what's an aging gearhead to do? Well, I went to the big dealers who had cars but wanted the big ADMs..20-25K at first. I said no, 10K damnit. They kept selling GT500s at 20. Finally I said screw it, this is not going to happen. Ill just buy me a GT or CS and rod it. Not a bad option either and these cars are both bargains. But somewhere deep inside I wanted the Shelby. My poor wife had to listen to me day after day lamenting my lack of Shelby. She knew it was either get me a dam Shelby or kill me.

Fortune smiled on her (and me more) when a fellow pulled into the parking lot at her gym in a GT500. She tracked the guy down who Im sure was really bummed when she didn't want a ride in his car but rather to find out what he paid and where he got it so her husband could get one, LOL. This guy was very cool, and called me up we chatted and I realized that if I was going to get a car, I would probably have to pay ADM. He told me what he paid and where and that kinda sealed it for me.

So a few days later, a guy named Tim Hall called me from Greenway Ford, where this other fellow had gotten his car. All resistance had broken down and I finally agreed to the ADM. I headed down to the dealer and met with Tim and he was very knowledgeable about Mustangs and we put a deal together (15k ADM) on and Ebony with Tungsten stripes.

Then more waiting and hoping I would get my VIN sooner rather than later. Once VIN came, I knew it was going to actually happen. At that time I decided I was going to delete the top stripes. I plan on putting a new hood on the car and the car would have to be restriped when that happened anyway. And, I don't know if over the top stripes are for me. I got a single rocker stripe, it has that old school nomenclature I like and is more subdued. I wanted the car to be a bit more stealthy.

Anyway, so I waited some more. The car was built Jan 4th 2007 and without stripes was released from the foreign plant the next day and went on a train on the 8th. It made its way verry slowly to Titusville where it was trucked over to Orlando. I got the call this morning that it was coming in, be at the dealership at 2:30ish. My wife picked me up at work and drove me down..in her Prius! At least one of us is trying to save the environment.

We pulled up and there is was fresh off the Truck with 2 other mustangs just delivered. It was a sight to behold. It sat there in front of the other stangs...dark and muscular looking. People were coming up and chatting as the car was stripped of its plastic and then taken on its PDI. The car was washed and detailed and I then took it to get some gas. I was accosted at the gas station by some English fellow who really went ape shit about it. I totally understand, LOL. Then it was on to the 417 Greenway(its a toll road not the dealer). Its got a long ramp on it and I got on it a bit. The car felt very solid to me and pulled like a freaking freight train! I think I started to get boost at some point on the ride to the ramp from the station but was in traffic and didn't get a chance to feel the surge till I was getting on the ramp. Anyhow the car made 90 without even trying, its just got tremendous power. You really have to watch your speed its easy to find yourself going faster than you planned. The car doesn't feel heavy to me at all, the power makes it feel very light and agile. This is a car made to drive with the throttle. Anyway, 19 miles of happy interstate cruising and then I hit a long straight back road and tipped into it a bit again. Again the car pulled with ferocity, the supercharger whine and exhaust note are just intoxicating. Its a pretty quiet car with the stock exhaust unless you stand on it, then that sweet music starts to play under the hood.

Finally the car is in the garage. BTW, in these pictures I am the bald headed dude with the stupid grin on his face. Im going to wait a while to mod the car, im just going to put a few miles on it and enjoy it for a while. The thing is stupid fast right out of the box, but I know power is addicting and eventually you always want more.

PS: Thanks to Tim for doing a great job. Hes a helluva nice guy, drives a Stang himself and if you are looking to get a Shelby, he can get you one but it probably wont be on the cheap. If you looking for a GT or CS Tim can help you out and they are fire saleing these cars out. He's a straight shooter and that's about all you can ask. My buying experience was really pleasant(considering the ADM situation) and there was no surprises. I'm going to put his number in case anyone is looking for a car, he might be able to help. These guys (Greenway) sell a lot of Shelby's, they are a huge dealer.

HOLY SH*T!!! I'd kill the sons a bitch*s if they hit my new black car with a buffing wheel!! Looks good though. Congrats!

I hear ya. I was a bit tense about it but the paint is flawless, I looked at it very carefully when I got home. Hopefully no harm done. If there is I got da proof! :hysterical: They told me this fellow was the best they got and he really did do a nice job.

Congrats again! Looks very nice. I had an Black '06 GT with a Procharger and I polished that bad boy and used wipe and shine on it everyday! There's nothing nicer than a clean black car! Unless of course its a clean Grabber Orange one! :happy feet:

Thanks to all who commented, appreciate your thoughts. I feel for the people still waiting on VIN, some folks at the small town dealers have waited a long time. But, those guys are probably getting a lot better deal on their cars than I did. I was very lucky to get VIN in November. When I went to contract on the car they werent sure when it would come. They said might be as late as march or april 2007! I still signed up, hell I woulda signed up for a 2008 if thats the earliest I could get. But the dealer really came through. They are a big dealer and they get a lot of Shelbys because of it. They did what they said they would do but it wasnt cheap either.

First Driving Impressions. I got to ring the car out a bit last Saturday for the first time after the drive home. Went for icecream with the wife and it was like a rolling roadshow, girlies pulling up honking giving the thumbs up, otherwise stoic folks nodding smiling and waving. SHe's like" Now I see why you bought his car" and "I cant believe all these people are freaking over this car". Of course I get challenged by some kid in a the obligatory 90's camaro hot rod. There was a lot of trafic and the wife was saying dont you dare so I followed him on to a back road and he went WOT with a puff of carbon I let him get about 5 car lengths and then layed into it. He realized real quick getting by him wouldnt be a problem. My wifes like, "dam, the front end felt like it was going to come of the ground!" LOL. Not much of a challenge but was fun none the less.

Also saw a Roush Stage 3 coming the other way making a turn. As I went around the corner I did a serious show of force, hung the tail out smokes coming off the back. Then I realize it was a chick driving it. She just kinda stared at me like WTF. Completely unappreciative of my vulgar display of power. Ah well, whats a little rubber.

I also let my wife drive the Shelby. She really liked it, never snubbed it out either.

Sunday we went for icecream again(we usually only go Sundays but , well, I got a new Shelby) This time, no one even notices us except a motorcycle cop who did a double take as I went by. He had an expression on his face like he was seeing sasqatch. No worries, wasnt speeding. Just another black mustang to the civilians. My car has no top stripes so people who know know and to the rest its just another car. Until I put the pedal down.

Ive done a few hard launches in the car and thus far Im just getting some fairly smooth wheelspin, not seeing the wheel hop many have descibed. But im not dumping the clutch at real high rpms, the car is too new to abuse(too much) yet. Needs some break in miles. Its hard to control myself though, LOL.

The power is incredible. The car is a torque monster. I love this car. I think the handling is excellent, but I dont expect the car to corner like a vette. Brakes are very good, linear and strong, but Ive not taken them to their limit. Brembos and big rubber, how could they be bad? The seats are about the most comfortable seats Ive ever had in any car. They are just plain great. Driving position ergonomics, the car fits me perfect. The only beef I have is the right side tach, just not used to it yet, I instictively look to the left.

The shifter is another matter. Might need to put a new one in, this one to me feels very ponderous and impercise. The car is very new so it might need to get some miles on it. Im going to give it a chance to loosen up and for me to adjust to it before I chuck it.

The clutch is a little tricky but you expect that in a 500 hp car. You need a serious clutch to harness that power. Ive felt heavier clutches, effort is not bad.

Fit and finish are very good. The paint is very deep. The car is just flat out beautiful. To me its a work of art.

My hats off to FoMoCo for having the BALLS to make this fine machine. And to Mr. Shelby, who's concept of a performance car is as cool in 2007 and its was in 1967. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
