Got my 2010 GT500 Kona Blue delivered in Feburary here in Germany.. The weather has been too bad for the Autobahn, but after Easter, it should be a good season for showing the American Muscle Might !

Be safe. The factory suspension, ride height, and rear spoiler are not ideal for sustained high speeds.

Ingram4868 is exactly right. The Shelby can get a little scary at high speeds and is not designed for them. A quick way to meet your maker. Don't try to compete with the BMW's, Audi's, Porsches, and Mercedes. They have far better suspensions that are designed for high speed stability. Quick squirts into the triple didgets should be no problem and you can stay with the competetion up to 155 which is where your car and most German cars rev limiters kick on. Just don't stay at those speeds. Also, if you're new to Germany, give yourself time to adjust to their Autobahn protocal. The Germans, in my opinion. are the best, most courtious, and competent drivers in the world and take their driving seriously. I spent a good deal of time on the autobahn and once you learn the rules and many unwritten procedures, its an absolute blast. Just be safe and enjoy the attention your new Shelby will get. Most Germans love the new Mustangs! Let us now how you fare. Wish I were with you!

Are you saying that is not smart-safe to drive Shelby 150-155 mph on highway for a long period of time when you go on trip or something like that?

I'm from Eu too.

I'm planing to buy one soon so I'm just asking curiously.

I'd say it's fine with a Griggs Racing suspension, but I sure as hell wouldn't want to do it with the factory setup!

Well the OP will have a chance to get the car up to those speeds for an extended period. I'm interested to hear his feedback on how the car does. I find my GT500 to be very stable in triple digits for extended periods. If he has a coupe that will be more dialed in then the vert.

It is amazing the difference in spring rates between the coupe and convertible. I have a coupe and a buddy and co-worker of mine has a convertible. When I stomp on it and shift through the gears she lifts the front end a little, but not much. When my buddy does the same his car porpoises like crazy between shifts. Then again, driving around town his car rides much better than mine.

Thats exactly what I'm saying. The Shelby's stock suspension is, in my humble opinion, not up to driving at those sustained high speeds. If you do it, you do so at your own peril. I have an 07 with stock suspension and it gets unstable and floaty above 120mph. I've also driven BMWs and Mercedes at much higher speeds, and there is no comparison. With some considerable suspension work the Shelby could be safe at those sustained high speeds, but not in it's stock form. The German factories know that their cars are going to be driven flat out on the Autobahn and build them accordingly to handle those speeds. Also, the cooling systems are capable at sustained high speeds. Ours aren't. Ford does not see a need to do this with US only Shelbys given our much lower speed limits. Police package vehicles may be an arguable exception, but even they are a little dicey at 140 plus. I realize this opens a Pandora's box of controversy among we Shelby lovers but thats what makes this forum great ! I still love my Shelby and have a 2011 on order. Hopefully the 2011's suspension is improved over the 07's .

I can't imagine going that fast with the stock suspension, I've maxed out at 115 so far in my SGT, and while it didn't feel scary to me, I don't know that I'd want to take much of a curve on at that speed, and I THOUGHT the suspension was pretty good on mine lol... I've never been a top speed kinda guy though, I just like to get to 70ish really quick!

Having driven the Autobaun a number of times it's very difficult to "sustain" any speed for any significant length of time/distance. Between traffic and speed limits (yes much of the Autobaun has speed limits) all you really get are opportunities to point and squirt.

Any Shelby on the Autobaun would be a blast! I'm envious!

I wasn't aware that this car doesn't sustain speed so well.

Now i have BMW 320 and when I go on trip I do 160-200km/h on highway and drive almost all the way like that.

I was thinking that I'll be able to do the same with Shelby.

I believe our fellow American members are talking in MPH (miles per hours) so 100MPH = approx 160KPH

Therefore 140MPH = approx 224KPH... not bad... and too fast for me for our crappy roads in Quebec !!

You are correct, sir. There are progressively fewer areas that have no specific limit. What with increased population etc., There are fewer opportunities to stay at speed except in the rural areas. Still taking our stock Shelbys to the limiter is a scary propostion. Plus they've got lovely speed cameras at overpasses that take a beautiful picture of your face and the tag. Gotta love German inginuity! But, God Bless em for keeping a few stretches open for fun.

You are deffinity on hyperalert when running 100mph plus on the Autobaun. Your rear view mirror becomes one of your most important tools and not for the same reason here in the Sates. No matter how quick you think you are hauling the mail, someone behind you is hauling it quicker and it's your responsibility to get out of their way! When you are pushing 110mph and you look up to see an Audi or screaming yellow Lambo (speaking from experience here) gaining on you like you are standing still it's all you can do to not fill your shorts!

I really wish americans would adopt this way of thinking. I live along a streach of highway with two lanes going in each direction and it would be alot better if drivers read the signs posted "Slower driver keep right" but they dont. It must be some sort of pride thing not wanting to pull over to let another car pass. Since ive lifted my truck and added HID headlights cars move over real quick for me it due to the blinding light comming into their car. If im not in my truck I just run with the highbeams on all the time on this same highway to keep the cars doing under the speed limit in the fast lane out of my way.

This is the exact reason why I didnt order a flashy color or even stripes on my 2011. I only have one highway in my area and I just want to blend into the landscape and not attract attention due to my driving habbits with slow sunday drivers in the fast lane that wont get over.

I agree, it shouldn't be a "fast" lane, it should be a passing only lane. pass then get the fuck out of the way!

What bugs me, is that it's a toss up on whether the "local" road w/ a 45mph limit to work will be slower or faster than the 55mph two lane highway route simply because if ONE dumbass wants to go 40 on the "highway", there isn't a safe place to pass them.... and I don't like starting my day with road rage, but I really don't understand some people. And I'm usually not in any big rush, I just like traffic to move reasonably for the type of road and posted limits.

Got my 2010 GT500 Kona Blue delivered in Feburary here in Germany.. The weather has been too bad for the Autobahn, but after Easter, it should be a good season for showing the American Muscle Might !

:censored: and I was thinking my 2010 GT500 Kona Blue will be the first on the Autobahn. :banghead:

Where do you live? Maybe we can meet in May when my Car will be in Germany. Oh and yes with a stock car it will be not so easy to drive on the Autobahn this why I have put the Eibach stuff on the car and the Shelby Bear brakes. Was driving 2008 with a stock 07GT500 in Germany and at 150mph I was thinking "WOW "! Will see how it works with my 2010 on the Autobahn but I had test drive my car at the Airfield at my Base and at 160mph (or faster but it shows only 160mph) I had no problem with the Car.

Are you German or American? If you be American then try to go to a driving school for fast cars. ADAC is the German AAA and have a special training for racing/fast cars driver!

I am an American contractor here in Germany, (near Nuremberg ), and have lived all over Germany for many years. I was in the US Airfoce stationed at Spangdahlem, Bitburg, and Ramstein. I have been driving a BMW 330ci for 7 years at 135 mph to work and back. It won't go any faster because it's American specs! I finally got my 2010 GT500 in Feburary and have held the reigns back because of the weather here in Bavaria. It's the most exciting car that I have ever owned. I have many years of driving on the Autobahn so I have no fear factor except exploding. Next week I will be driving to Frankfurt and will hunt for competition on the way there and back.

Glad to hear you have considerable experience on the autobahn. That makes a big difference. Just remember that new Shelby doesn't have the suspension superiority that your 330 has so be careful in the upper register. I stayed in Pfronten the last time I was over there. What a gorgous place and friendly people. Just love how clean the country is and what pride the Germans take in keeping it that way. The slobs in this country sure could take a lesson from them. Take care and be safe!!

Well, I hit the Autobahn today for a short fling toward Nuremberg, How lucky can you get when an Audi RS4 got on the same time I did ! He looked in his mirror and saw a Cobra chewing on his ass. He slammed the gas pedal and so did I. The pickup of the GT500 is unbelieveable ! I flew by him at 150 mph and then it petered out at 160. ( Then he blew by me at about 170 mph,). The car handeled ok except when a car pulled out in front of me, my nose when left and right for a second, then came to it's senses. I drove back to Amberg satisfied and thursty for a cold German beer.

That left and right dance is what I'm talking about. May also be slightly unequal perportioning preasure in your front brakes. You were definitly at the GT's edge of the envelope. Great that you stayed with the RS4, which is an awesome machine. You might consider some suspension upgrades for the Shelby; perhaps Koni's or Bilsteins all around and see if that stabilizes the car at higher speeds. I think you have a rev. limiter of 155 MPH on your 2010; and for good reason. Have fun and keep your intervals!!

Here's a good site to look at. It's a German tunning shop in Munich that takes new American cars and pumps them up German style. They took a 2010 GT500 to 800 hp and ran it up to 220 mph!

'07 here. Besides Evo billet LCAs, and changed UCA, it's stock suspension.

I don't know the exact speed, cause, it's starting at 4th gear, ending speedo, than all the way with 5th gear till the end of rev limiter, and than some 6th gear pull... It was OK, but not so stable as while driving with BMW 300kph+.
