slbgtsc
We had a track day yesterday (go kart track) very tight for large cars better place for Miatas, Subarus etc, but I hold my own only about 5-6 sec off of the fastest time all on street tires. So I am on my second run of the day and have a passenger riding shotgun in the SGT (coolest car there) when I hit the front straight go from 2nd to 3rd or so I thought. I let the clutch out expecting some more speed only to hear the car protest loudly and the tach go crazy! Yep missed 3rd went to 1st, luckily these things are tough, and I caught it quickly and got the clutch in. Sounded horrilby.... I went to 3rd and gave it some gas hoping and praying that it did not blow. Thankfully she was not hurt. I have an aftermarket shifter but this was total driver error trying to lay it down for the rider. Whew! Did two more runs and she is fine but man what a scarry thing, and a little tough on the ego when I got back to the pits and caught grief for my lack of skill. Not my proudest moment but glad the car is fine.

slbgtsc
Happy to hear it worked out for you and you only lost a few "Cool Points". I will trade cool points any day vs. a blown motor. Last year same track a guy with a V-8 Miata lost control went off the track an punched a hole in his pan, resulting in an oiled down track, burnt motor and loss of cool points. I was really suprised I didn't throw a rod or something as i shifted at 6 grand. I missed shift early on 2nd to third with the stock shifter but it was always just not getting into 3rd never had it go to first. Totally my fault trying to shift too fast vs. making a good shift. Lesson learned.
SicShelby
Ouch ouch, glad everything is okay. Buddy of mine did that in his Camaro a few weeks ago... didn't cause any damage but man, makes you really baby the gears for a few miles.
FordRocks1
Glad you're safe, I had a scare today also going on the highway and shifting at redline and instead of going into fourth I went into second gear, car got loose for a second but held it's own, that just scared the crap out me, I can't imagine the sound and feeling with a SC'd car. Yesterday must not have been a good day for shifting. I took my brother in law for his first ride in the Mustang. We went up the highway and caught a red light... The light turns green so I take it easy in first and when I hit second I jump on it, hit third and then shifted to what I thought was fourth, but it was second. I felt the rear end hop and looked at the tach. I quickly regrouped and got it into fourth. My brother in law thought that the hopping was me catching rubber in fourth. I agreed with him. rush_junky
Yikes!! What if you put it in reverse?!? OK, it's not shifting related but I'm thanking my lucky stars!! Here's my close call....I was eating lunch in my SGT; yes, I do that. I'm a very clean eater...lol I put the Quiznos cup of chicken noodle soup with the lid on on the center of the dash. Faster than I realize, it comes sliding down on my lap. Bounce, Bounce and I grab a hold of it.....THE LID DIDN'T COME LOOSE!!! WHEW!!!!! No more soup for me !!! V-8 Vixen
Been there, done that! You hold your breath and listen very closely for a few seconds, don't you? Whew! :whew: It sure would be nice if there was some device you could install that would prevent disastrous downshifts such as that!

Whew! :whew: It sure would be nice if there was some device you could install that would prevent disastrous downshifts such as that! You guys jinxed me cause I missed fourth gear (twice ) yesterday. I have missed third a time or two but never fourth . I think I had a case of lazy clutchitist. Seriously I need to drive her more, cause that sound with the top down will give you chills. BTW I love a fourth to second downshift when done on purpose :happy feet:
ilmor
Fortunately, I have never had this issue....then again, that's kind of hard to do when I mostly just cruzin' at local road speeds.....
fatboy
how about when u try to shift before pressing the clutch and get a little bit of grinding sensation in the shift lever and quickly put the clutch in before that grinding sensation turns into loud embarassing gear grinding noise. I turned to my passenger and said sure missed that one lets try again. He gave me points for owning up to it. second time worked got a little sideways going into second lots of black stuff on road
