China is a REALLY interesting study if anyone wants to REALLY look into what's going on and the coming CRASH of China like the housing market.

Here are just a few of the issues:

1. Unlike the US and other nations China controls it's currency value such that it always trades lower than the US Dollar. This means that goods made and sold from China cost less in US dollars and US goods sold to China cost more! So US consumers see "cheap" China goods and Chinese consumers see expensive US goods.

2. China has few rarely enforced environmental laws. So it's less expensive for a business to set up a polluting factory in China. Meanwhile China is killing its environment and poisoning its people with poor air quality and polluted rivers and streams.

3. China has few and rarely enforced OSHA like worker safety rules. Again it's easier to set up a factory in China in a sweatshop like way with worker safety taking a back seat. Such as the recent coal mine accident that was caused by cutting corners and the perception they didn't need to worry about the rules.

4. China's average yearly income, in the cities (don't even ask about the rural areas) is around $5000-$6000 per year. So cheap labor is the rule.

5. China's communist party has to keep 1 billion people employed or risk loosing power. So they encourage all of the above to keep people employed and spent far FAR more per person in their economic stimulus than we did. To keep these factories going they need the US consumer to keep buying. Remember the average wage above? The average Chinese worker is not going to be able to buy that iPhone, that 48" flat screen TV, or fancy car. So the Chinese begin to buy up US debt to keep US interest rates low and credit pumping into the US economy so we keep buying and keep the factories working and their citizens employed.

Given that China can't clean up it's environment, care for its workers, increase their pay, or they'll no longer be competitive against US companies that don't need to ship product overseas. China has to keep being FAR FAR less expensive to build in than the US or they loose and they know that.

The issue for China is like the housing bubble eventually something has to give! As US consumers have reduced spending and buying their "stuff" they've had to keep pumping their version of the stimulus into their economy and offer to buy more US debt to free up the US credit markets.

In a way it's a sick relationship we have, we're like addicts that want it all now and China gives us a cheap fix and on a payment plan! But as China takes more and more jobs for its own people like a virus it begins to kill its host, the US. The more jobs they take the fewer people can afford to buy their stuff and it begins to fall apart.

Not sure if quality issues are enough to push people away from China. The American consumer is just that, a CONSUMER and they want as much as they can get for the lowest cost. Just look at Walmart! Target stores, the merchandise and the buying experience is better but Walmart is #1 because on average they cost less and people care more about price than quality. Look at the Mac OS vs. Windows! Windows has been a virus ridden POS since day one running on crap hardware with drivers needed for this and that which conflict or stop working when one thing or the other is updated etc. Why would people buy a PC? Most just surf the web, do email, use MS Office the Mac has all that, but it costs more on average cause there are no cheaply made Macs where there are plenty of junk low cost PCs.

So, long way around answering your question, I don't think we will ever stop. It's not our nature unfortunately. No the big crash of China will have to happen first I think and that's too bad cause I fear we'll go with it.

IMHO!

Ding Ding Ding....Winner.

Now that China basically holds the "note" on our country, even if we try to cut them out or establish high tariffs, they will call all our loans due and we collapse.....

aint going to happen now. we are in bed with them forever........get used to it.

Laymans version Jeff..........post your response on "lookatthebigbrainonBrad.com" :hysterical:
