Shadrach Mustang charity auction for spinal research

Recommended Posts

While checking on the availability of some parts from the Shadrach Mustang, I learned that one of these cars will be auctioned off during the upcoming Barrett-Jackson event on Saturday afternoon, April 3rd <http://www.barrettjackson.com/>.

The car is being sold to raise money for the Darrell Gwynn Foundation <http://darrellgwynnfoundation.org/index.htm>, which is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of spinal cord injuries and diseases. The sale will be telecast live on the Speed Vision channel. Look for lot # 661.

The Coors dragster is making a reappearance as lot 661.1. For those who were at BJ in Scottsdale in January this was one of the most exciting things I ever saw. The car was bought by Ron Pratte, who immediately put it up again, and it sold two more times before the end. Now it's back again, and I expect there will be multiple turns this time as well. The goal is to raise $1M with this vehicle.

Gwynn's foundation is now helping injured Vets. Good for him!

Someone should add up all of the charity auction proceeds as a percentage of the total for the auction. When mine crossed the block in Jan '08 my calculations were close to $1M during that auction, and there was still one more to go before I had to split. It's amazing that (1) there are so many people willing to give their money for these cars and (2) that BJ touches none of it. Kudos.
