kahmann
My new Odyssey battery and charger arrived today. I dried up yet another red top Optima, so I decided to give the Odyssey a shot. However, I should have taken a closer look at the measurements before deciding on the behemoth PC1700. It would otherwise be great, but in order for me to use it, I will need to remove the recently installed Taylor battery box and mount the battery in the trunk without it, because the Taylor box is 2" too short for this thing. I threw the charger on the Optima now to see if it can somehow bring it back from the dead. Here's what the new hardware looks like.

clark17357
Hey Ken, My OEM battery is still doing fine but the day will soon some (it is 2.5 years old). I had been considering the Optima. You said you have "dried up" another one. What does that mean exactly? BTW, looks like you are a hair's width away from the motor being done. Looking forward to its completion. It's red but it's definitely got an orange hue to it. Thanks for the compliment on the heads. I can't wait to get them bolted on and running. The 1st one was a year old and was in my fastback. The 2nd one was in the Shelby for 6 months. This 3rd one (warranty replacement) lasted less than a year. Anytime I've let an Optima sit for more than a week or so, they've lost their charge and weren't able to be revived. Optima used to be top notch quality and I ran them for years, but I'm done with them. Ken

kahmann
^Well Andrew, I've been accused of being color blind many times by my wife, so I'll take your word on the color of the battery. Thanks for the heads up on the Steeda box. It looks like I'll have a Taylor box up for sale here shortly. Ken

kahmann
That is a sweet jeep! It is, however, more orange than this battery, but honestly not too far off at all. I think it would look bitchin in that thing. Ken
Shelby-Don
I work as an engineer for EnerSys the company that makes the Odyssey and Sears DieHard Platinum, the Odyssey battery color is called red/orange. We also have the following sizes that might fit your battery box better. 34-PC1500 - Group size 34 with left positive terminal (10.85x6.76x7.82, 880 CCA, 1500 PHCA, 50 lbs) 34R-PC1500 - Group size 34R with right positive terminal (10.85x6.76x7.82, 880 CCA, 1500 PHCA, 50 lbs) By the way if you happen to live close by and don't care if the battery has a scratch or maybe a different color (No labeling) I can get these when they are available for a fraction of the cost.
