johnnygotmojo
I just went to pick up my car after two months at the dealer to replace scoop and stripes. The scoop and hood stripes turned out great, but they also replaced the stripes on my front and rear bumper and the stripes have seams in them! They have actually overlapped the stripes on the bumpers?! I'm not talking about the gap between the stripes, I mean from the top of the bumper to the bottom, the stripe is now two pieces that they have overlapped. The original stripe was one piece. Has anyone heard of this? Sorry no pics, I left the car there.

tekheavy
Same here. Front and rear bumper stripes are two pieces. That's normal.
JeffIsHereToo
All cars are that way. Even when my stripes were redone by a 3rd party they were done as two pieces so they wrap properly. Go pick up your car and enjoy!
johnnygotmojo
Thanks for the quick reply guys, I feel a little better. I just don't remember the seams and overlap from the factory.
kahmann
^Post a pic and we'll tell you if it looks like the factory stripes looked.
JeffIsHereToo
Thanks for the quick reply guys, I feel a little better. I just don't remember the seams and overlap from the factory. I've noticed that on 07s with the old factory stripes the overlap is less noticable I think because the stripes are MUCH thinner so not as apparent. The new stripes are much thicker so it's easier to see the overlap. That's my guess!
johnnygotmojo
I'll post a pic this weekend after I pick it up. The top stripe is wider than the lower half by about a 1/32" on the inside and outside on one side of the rear bumper. They told me they could trim the stripe to even it. I'm not even sure why they replaced the bumper stripes because there was nothing wrong with them
EL SHELBY
Yep, came that way from Shelby. Farmdog is sending me a set of stripes for my hood and bumper and he explained to me that the bumpers can be done without the seam, it's just difficult. johnnygotmojo
Thanks guys, hopefully they can successfully " trim" the width problem and buff out all the paint swirls they put in after two months of sitting in a body shop. By Friday, my first mod will be complete.........out with the 3:55's and in with the 4:10's.
jmn444
fyi, "trimming" the stripes might not be a good thing, if they run a razor down them, they will most certainly also cut thru the clear coat as well... this may never cause corrosion problems (but it could), but when the stripes wear out again, and you go to remove them, the cut clear could potentially come off with them. i'm speaking based on things i've read on here though, not personal experience, so take it with a grain of salt! Corrosion on Plastic???????? WTF?????? I guess maybe I'm missing something here.... ALL SGT's came with the overlap on the front & rear bumpers...it's the easiest way to stripe them...you run a BIG chance of stretching them out of shape if you try to do them in one piece... You have to be REALLY good not to mess that up. They need to be REALLY careful. Good luck!

I agree with jmn444. I would be worried about cutting into the clear coat and paint. The shop may not be careful enough. I would worry more about the clear coat "peeling" off down the road rather than the stripes being a little too wide. Just my 2 pennies.

My bad, first time I read it I didn't think about what section of stripe he was referring to, but still not good to use a razor on the paint regardless of the material under it. By Friday, my first mod will be complete.........out with the 3:55's and in with the 4:10's. Great first mod. Shorty headers and aluminum driveshaft not really worth the money. Next you might want a tune. Not much hp gain but makes your car much more responsive. I've got an sct-2 tune from Brenspeed but there are several tunes you could use. Good-Luck. P.S. Keep that razor off your car.
johnnygotmojo
While it was in for the the 4:10's I had them add an SCT 93 octane tune, and last night I put on MAC axle backs! And I agree, I'm not letting anyone near my car with a razor blade.
