Miller Motorsports Park

I was contacted recently by someone who wants to see the Miller Motorsports Park Museum en-route to another Shelby gathering (we're 1/2 day drive from Las Vegas). If other Shelby fans have an interest in seeing the amazing collection of Shelby's amassed by Larry Miller throughout his life please contact me so I can set you up for a free tour while you are in the area. If you have sufficient time there are many other things you can do (karting, off-road park, watch whomever is on track that day or look into our performance driving school, etc.) as well. It's the only place in the world one can view Mk.I, II, III and IV GT40's in one setting, it features 16 Cobras (including a Dragonsnake and the Daytona and Willment Coupes), half a dozen GT350's (including an R-Model) and Dan Gurney's Trans-Am raced Mercury Cougar. Every Shelby fan deserves a day in the museum...I hope to meet some of you here!

Bryan my wife and I headed to Vegas in May and that sounds interesting, what would a tour take for time, and what is the address so I could google it and see just how to fit it in either on the way out to Vegas or on the way back.

Hey guys...the address is 2901 N. Sheep Lane, Tooele, Utah 84074 • (435) 277-7223. It's rather convenient as it's a short distance off I-80, and most anytime between 9:00 and 5:00 works well M-F with Saturdays being workable if needed. The Museum is always open and always free during these hours, I'll just need a heads up to provide a guided tour. Let me know what your needs are, and it you have time you may want to tour the entire facility as well.

Sure wish I lived closer and could make that. I heard That my old '66 Blue GT350 #1335 was restored and ended up in that collection. I sold it in 1998 running/driving but not restored. If anyone is able to go please check to see if there is a blue '66 with Shelby #1335 and post pics if possible.

Nope...that's 6S1335...I walked over to the museum and took a few shots on my lunch break. Here are pics of 6S1733...the 1974 pic was after the first owner was done beating it up and the last pic is of his first victory lap in 1969. The car was sold to him new in March 1967...no one wanted it apparently. Times have changed.

WOW!!! Thanks! Good to know it lives! I had heard thats where it ended up. Makes me happy. Is the hood bowed like it looks in the pic? It did have an all fiberglass hood when I had it. Do you think Miller would want or care about some before "as found" pictures ? I even have a copy of the original 1966 title still. I bought it from the original dealer that sold it new and then they took it back in on trade in 1968, the dealer kept it until 1998. Car was Very original but tired. The dealer went bankrupt and that was the reason they had to sell it. Wish I would of kept it.

 

Your car looks really cool, I love old race cars with history like that. Very cool. You are a lucky guy.

I'm glad you like the pictures, it was the least I could do. The hood fit on this car is horrible, and that's why it is the one showing off it's rather impressive engine bay (very correct). Many of the original cars had ill-fitting hoods, vintage pics show similar gaps frequently, so I'm wondering if this is an original hood. 1733's 'glass hood fits rather well, but it's not original to the vehicle.

 

I'd love to get copies of anything you have on the car...please P/M me so we can make arrangements, and thanks!

I know this is an old thread and don't know what compelled to google "6S1335" this morning but I did and found this. I always wondered what happened to that car as I tried to buy it several times during the 70's and 80's but the dealer mentioned always wanted more than it was worth at any given time in my opinion. When it was worth 12K they wanted 15K, when it was worth 15 they wanted 20... I heard about the car around 1975-77 through a friend in nearby Harrisburg and scouted out the original owner "Frog" Logsden. Can't remember his first name now. Frog told me he had traded it back in and sure enough it was there went I went in. The car came from the Ford dealer in Shawneetown, Illinois. Finally, one day when I stopped in to make another pass they told me a guy from Missouri had just recently bought it so I guess mmitcgell was that guy. Good for you!

That's funny, when I picked up the car I heard about 'Froggy' and contacted him wondering if I could locate any original paper work from him. He seemed upset that I bought it and wouldnt hardly talk to me. I unloaded the car in front of the dealeship in Shawneetown to take some pics of the car and a bunch of locals came by and told me stories of Froggy and the wild times the car went thru. The story was Froggy got it as a present, maybe graduation, and beat on it until '68 and then traded it back to the dealership. The dealer had it ever since, I bought it in '98 for a great price because the dealership was going under. It had the original spare tire, even the original '66 title since it was traded back to the dealer. I believe it had a service warranty type hipo block since there were no VIN # on it and there were signs that something had come thru the original Cobra oil pan, it was alum welded back up so the Froggy stories must have been true. Sure wish I had held onto it but at least #1335 is in a good home-Miller Museum.

For the three or four times I've been out there racing at MMP I've never been to the museum. Usually to busy riding and crewing or to tired at the end of the day after doing that. If I make it out there this season I'll have to make sure I carve out an extra day to walk around. Now that I think about it for all the times I've been to Barber racing and riding I've never wandered around their museum either.

Great story. I'm looking forward to seeing the Museum in June when I go out for the Boss Track Attack. From what I understand the dinner reception for the Boss Track Attack is in the Museum.

 

 

SNAKE HANDLER,

When is the Boss Track attack? Can I bring my GT500KR? I live about an hour away and love the track, been on it a few times. The museum is fantastic!

You absolutely need to hit up both places when you are there. It's good enough to take the time. Being a GA official, I've visited both many times. There is no way to see everything in the Barber museum at one time. Amazing machinery in there that will blow your mind. Specially if you're a motorcycle fanatic. The most extensive collection in the world I believe.

"Frog" was a bit stand-off-ish for sure. I remember driving what seemed like 20 miles down country roads trying to find him. He lived waaay out in the boondocks right on the Ohio River as I recall. It's funny how things turn out sometimes as I had been told he had a Cobra. When I discovered it was a Cobra Mustang I was a little disappointed but sure wish I had just paid the 12K now. I've been on the trail of a Boss 429 the last 8 years and another guy about like Frog, way out in the country, owns it and won't even discuss a sale. Look closely in the pic and you can see a Grabber Blue B9.

I am scheduled for June 6&7. 6 June I'm driving the Boss 302 and 7 June I ugraded to the FR500S. Miller provides the cars.

First you have to buy a new Boss 302, then you can sign up for it. Ford pays for a free track instruction day. http://bosstrackattack.com/

As cool as the Shelby Mustangs and Cobras are at the Miller Motorsports Park- the REAL stars are 2 of the rarest and highest valued american cars ever made. #1- One of the 6 original Daytona Cobra Coupes. (Guardsman blue with Wimbledon white stripes). #2 The gulf blue and High vis red GT-40 than was one of the 3 GT-40s that crossed the finish line in the 1-2-3 finish at the 24 hours of La Mans. Yeah- that one race... the one that pretty much everyone agrees to be the most significant moment in auto racing history!

 

I had a business meeting with Amy Boylan back in 2009. When she found out I was from Utah and raced at Miller Motorsports Park, she lit up and we talked at length about the cars in the Miller Museum and how incredible it was that the Millers had such significant cars all under one roof and on display to the general public -FREE of charge!

blk12svt, I would be camped out at that Boss9, Grabber blue even! That would be worth the chase. When I went to look at that '66GT350 I was convinced it wouldnt be the real deal.

The large no trespassing sign looks intimidating. I would stay on top of it though, you never know when the timing is right.
