Want Brighter Halogen Bulbs than Stock!

Recommended Posts

I want to make my headlights brighter than they are right now stock on my Shelby GT. A lot of people say that with the halogen bulbs, some of them can over heat and melt the housing. What brands offer the best bulbs (brightest I can get) without the risk of melting my housing?

To upgrade my whole unit to HID isn't really worth it since they aren't much brighter.

Have thought of trying the Slyvania Siverstars. I have used them on other vehicles and they did a great job!

I believe the Silverstar H13 bulbs are on the car stock. That is the brightest they offer.

Nope, Silverstars are not stock on the SGT. The SGT (non HID) comes with the regular stock bulbs from Ford. Silverstar are not the brightest by Sylvania. They also make the Ultra, which is a step up. Besides the Ultra, PIAA makes a bulb that is brighter then the Silverstar and comes close to the driving lights offered by Shelby.

I am currently running the Silvania Silverstars H13 bulbs on my SGT. I had tried the Luminics Cool Blue - they were too blue and kinda pricy. . . .

the Silverstars were actually brighter.

You could look into an HID conversion kit. Aftermarket obviously - but effective.

I have been looking at getting the HID conversion kit sold @ stangmods.com

Check this link to the light kit for 05-09 Mustang GT 2005-2009 HID Light Kit

-----------

Here is some helpful info also:

The 4300K kit produces a white light

The 6000K kit produces a blueish-white light <--- Propbably what I would go with

The 8000K kit produces a blue light

The 10000K kit produces a blueish-purple light

Most seem to be going with the 6000k or 8000k HID kits. Those are usually the most usable light without being too blue or looking out of place on your ride.

Stock OEM HID lighting is running near or close to the 4300k mark according to the website.

That HID kit doesn't look too bad... american muscle has a kit priced exactly the same for the dual beams, but doesn't mention relays and might involve splicing, can't really tell by the description... I'm gonna have to add something like this to my to-do list i think!

are you running that kit? am i reading right that it is $150? does plug and play mean it plugs into the factory harness? if so, did you use a relay as well?

I'm not running that kit( one day I'll get some) but I keep spending $$ on different items to make the car perform better, right now I am looking for a SCT tuner so lights right now are not on the priority list, after the wheels and Brembo brakes I think I'm done for the time being save for the Jlt brake bezels for exterior mods. Give Mike a buzz he is a very down to earth guy and willing to answer any questions you may have and if you want to know more come to our site and read what people have to say about him and his products.

I will definitely check into it more when I'm ready, I'm doing the tuner next as well, probably going with bama since he's w/ amer. muscle now... seems like things got iffy with them for a while, and I was going to do brenspeed... who knows... who are you going with? do you know people that have tried both? or some other tuner all together?

I will most likely go with AM because they sponsor the mustang club I'm in and we get a discount with them.

i have the AM dual beam kit it is plug and play no splicing needed and it is WAY brighter than stock. I drive alot at night and was always dissapointed with the stock set up and how little light it produced but with the HID kit it is the best lighting system i have ever had on a car.

ps it looks good to.

I e-mailed Michael on March 16, but have not heard from him. Do you know if he was going to be away for a while?

I guess I needed yet another thing to "copy" off of greasers car! Thanks for the info on the HID's man, can you tell us what they mean in the description about the wires not using a plug though? are they just spade connectors that go onto the terminals directly inside the existing harness on the car? How long have you had them and used them?

Clark yes that is the kit i got.

JMN im not sure why it says that mine had a plug that hooked up to the pass side headlight plug you also need to ground and run a power to the battery. It took me longer to decide where to mount the ballasts then to install it.

Hey greaser

Every car foreign or domestic that, I have bought the first thing was change the headlights & fogs to anything other than what's in there. Cheap bulbs from dealer even with the factory HID on my M3 changed out the bulbs and much brighter. Since the Piaa's my eye's don't get as tired on long drive at night and now, I have to wear glasses at night to drive for distance. The HID will work better and look sharper but if you want me too, I can come by at night to your house and shine my light in your windows. If your able to use your scope on your rifle to pop the lights out then go with the HIDS if you miss just promise me that you bury me with my G.I joe doll thats strap in the passenger seat. :rip:
