Winter Projects?!?

Recommended Posts

Ok so for those of us NOT living in Florida, Texas, Arizona, etc..... we've had limited opportunity to drive this winter. We had a nice weather day yesterday near Denver and I went on a cruize with a friend (Rpretzel)... was nice to get out and knock the dust off!

I'm sure most everyone on this site has done some type of winter project on their cars.... I'm just curious about what y'all have done.

As for me....

-KR Exhaust

-Widened rear rims to 11.75" (weldcraftwheels) and mounted Toyo 315/30/20

I kept my stock GT500 Rears with Nitto 305/45/18 for the drag strip... less wide but more side wall and height.

Thanks Lee N!

-Metco Drive shaft loop

-SLP Line lock

-Dyno:

628 RWHP/570 ft-lbs stock pulley and tune

665 RWHP/623 ft-lbs 3"pulley and Jon lund 93 octane tune

698 RWHP/644 ft-lbs 3"pulley and Jon Lund 100 octane tune

Thanks Jon Lund!

I'm Thinkin' seriously about buying one of Reg's strut tower braces.... they look clean! and I'm sure they stabilize the front end a fair amount.

If winter doesn't end soon.... I'll go broke!

Pictures to follow.... excuse the mess... were having a garage sale next week!

Glad to see you were able to get out and put the car through some paces. Enjoy!

I installed the strut brace and it is beautifull, haven't been able to test drive yet. Also installed Shelby 6P rear brakes. Soon the roads will be washed off , then time to :shift: Waiting for :spend: for cooling upgrade,

let me know how those brakes feel....

I considered getting them when I SS'd but it was a bit pricey for me.

do you have a picture of your strut tower brace?

I will try to get a pic for you. I got the brakes on the 30% sale, and will have Shelby out soon to season the brakes.

Winter modifications: Metco driveshaft loop

Nitto NT05 275/35zr20

Finally street tested today. The super snake still smokes the tires in first and second. But when I did a burnout to heat them up, first still slipped, but second hooked up great. No spinning in second at all. But, something is hitting underneath the car. It sounds bad from the inside. When the tires cool off, they spin again. Hey bonedoc, how does your driveshaft loop and new tires work?

Woody i have had excellent hookup with the 315 Toyo's but it will even get better when things heat up here in colorado....should be plenty sticky. The tires look great. they are within a few millimeters of stock height so the car from the side has a stock look. all of the extra tire is tucked inside. only had to remove the dustboot from the shock in the fenderwell to get them to fit. The tread pattern on the Toyo looks aggressive but is not great in wet road travel (i don't drive when it rains anyway). Nice combo if you want to maintain stock look but add meat to the wheels. I'm gonna try to do some road coarse this summer and I'll post my impression of traction at that time as well.

The Drive shaft loop is a good fit for the SS.... no real issues there.... just needed one to stay legal at the dragstrip.

Thanks for the input Bonedoc. The bumpstop is ok to leave on with the wide rims? I might want to widen the rear rims later. I have Ford racing suspension and I think it is allowing the rear axle to move and clunk around the drive shaft.

Just an update:

A friend and I took the wheels off my SS last weekend to install the LCA relocation brackets and with the suspension entirely UNLOADED (car on the lift) the wheel did rub the prominent portion of the bump stop..... so we cut out the "bump" in the mid-portion of the bumpstop (leaving the bumpstop intact) and that did the trick. My rims are 11.75 wide. Just an FYI for anyone considering widening. The Toyo's look and feel great. well worth it.
