shelbypt
All right guys, I opened the box in my trunk that holds the brake duct kit for our KRs and there are no instructions. So, I took the car over to the Ford dealership and they have never done this install and asked where are the instructions. They don't want to proceed without instructions either. Has anyone installed this kit or know where I can find instructions on the install?

FiaCobra
Gary, what dealer is doing your install? What else are you doing to the car when it's there? I have to find a wire mesh screen to install when I do mine.
JADEDaddy73
All right guys, I opened the box in my trunk that holds the brake duct kit for our KRs and there are no instructions. So, I took the car over to the Ford dealership and they have never done this install and asked where are the instructions. They don't want to proceed without instructions either. Has anyone installed this kit or know where I can find instructions on the install? Hey. I have the air duct kit installed. Work was done by JDM Engineering in Freehold, NJ. I think it's about 1-2 hours from you if my memory serves. Anyway they had no problems with the install. They said it was very basic BUT I had an issue with the 18" wheels rubbing on the hose a bit. I brought it back and JDM threw some zipties on the hose to make it more of an oval shape and give me a few centimeters more clearance and it worked. All that said once I switched to the 20s I have had ZERO issue with the kit. I have looked on the Shelby Store to find some sort of mesh or plastic grid cover for the duct holes on the grille. Two reasons for this. One is the obvious concern over stuff flying in to the duct and getting caught inside. Second is the aesthetic. I have an issue with looking straight on the car and seeing the orange color of the hoses through the opening. They should have made those hoses black in my opinion because they stick out like sore thumbs. Anyway since they aren't black I want to cover up the holes with the mesh covers to allow air flow but to reduce the visibility of the orange hose. I did find these but not sure yet if they are the right ones for our cars: http://www.ShelbyStore.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=P7SZ%2D2K004%2F5K I KEEP MEANING TO CALL BUT KEEP FORGETTING...IF ANYONE KNOWS IF THESE ARE THE CORRCT DUCT HOLE COVERS PLEASE CHIME IN AND LET US KNOW. Oops. sorry for the caps!
txcobra
Wait, the kit doesn't come with grilles to cover the holes???? I have never opened mine.

shelbypt
Thanks guys for the replies. And thank you Phil for the PDF! I spoke with Robert Lane about installing the kit. He stated that Ford engineers warned that once installed, you can pick up dirt, gravel , etc, and have it blown onto the discs. They stated this can then begin to cause premature squealing and scratches in your rotors. That's why it was put in the box and not installed. They left the decision to install the kit to the owner. If you do put the kit on, screens are advisable which are not part of the kit. I haven't installed my kit yet because I want to see what types of screen can be used to block out the road debris. FENCEKR
The guy at the dealer in CA told me to install it for running on the track but to remove it after, they just become dirt collecters. My .
REAL ONE
More evidence of the hand of Ford involved in the KR build at Shelby. My kit is still in the box and will likely stay in the box and with the car.
FiaCobra
I'm putting my kit on but will have to have some sort of screen. I'm also going to give the inside of the hose (at the intake side) a quick shot of black spray paint to hide the orange.
fcettner
Let me know the type of screen recommended for this fixture, mine came with cooling ducts installed. I've been a little nervous knowing stuff can enter into my brake rotors. I will do some looking around myself for a screening material that would suffice. Son of GT
This is the screening material that I recommend using... http://www.google.co...ved=0CCcQrQQwAw You can find this stuff at your local materal supply store, sheet metal supplier, and some old school hardware stores too. Easy to hand or die cut, and easy to paint too. You can also get it in stainless. Screen door materal will work too, but that stuff can be a little flimsy. Dennis Brown
I have not put mine on yet either but isn’t there a plug that you have to remove to put the front fascia to hose adaptor plate on. Could you leave it in there and drill a lot of little holes in it so air could get in but no gravel. I know this would not stop dust but a screen will not either. JADEDaddy73
I don't know if that will work, but it is a great idea. Something to look into! I called Jim Sr. at JDM today and asked about them installing a grid for me to cover the holes. He said he does it often there and highly recommends doing so. He was under the impression that I said I didn't want it otherwise it would have been on my car already. Anyway the funny part of this story was that he told me he has already had to remove a bird and 2 squirrels from customers vehicles who chose not to get the grid. I was cracking up when he told me. JADEDaddy73
Does he sell them ? I am setting up an appointment to have him fabricate a set and install them for me next Saturday. I don't know if he would make an extra set and send them up to you, but I can ask if you'd like. Also you could look them up online and ask him yourself if you'd like. Just ask him to use my car as the mold and to make an extra set for you. Let me know.
JADEDaddy73
Hi guys. Like I said previously I will be calling to set up a fabrication and install on the duct kit hole covers. I am going to ask Jim Sr. at JDM Engineering if he would consider using my car as a mold and fabricating more than just one set of these for my car. FiaCobra asked me to try to work out an extra set for him and to see what type of price they would ask for just the covers, uninstalled. Before I call I would like to know if ANYONE else has an interest in this and I will try to see if more sets equals a better price for all. Please let me know if you would be interested and I will do my part to try to get this arranged at the best price I can. I have had a lot of work done at JDM and I believe Jim Sr. when he says he has done this before and that he fabricates a high quality aluminum cover for the duct. That being said I have not yet seen the product and I will be going in blind on this so if anyone does decide to "order" a set please remember this and do not hold me responsible. If you would prefer to wait it out I can give you a real assessment on the cover in about 2 weeks after he makes and installs them for me. The only issue with this is that he uses the car to mold the part, according to his description, so I don't know if he can make blind molds after the fact, if that makes any sense. Anyway, anyone who wants to take a shot on a set let me know ASAP. Dino P.S. My understanding of the part is that it is a high grade aluminum grid and that it will keep out debris, rocks & rodents but NOT dust as some have mentioned. I felt I needed to mention this so we have realistic expectations on what to expect.

shelbypt
What about covering the back of the inlet with aluminum screen (like on a screen door) and then placing the tubing over the inlet and clamping it down to secure the tubing and the screen. This type of screen would prevent a lot of crap from making it's way back to the rotors, it would also keep you from seeing the orange tube. I'm not sure how long it would last, but a much finer screen to keep more out. And can be replaced very quickly.
JADEDaddy73
Hey Guys. I haven't forgotten about this. I am still trying to get a price for anyone who was interested. East coast rain storm apparently wreaked havoc on JDM's phone lines and I have had a hard time getting in touch with them Jim Jr. was also on vacation which didn't help matters. I will post as soon as I get a response. Sorry for the delay! Dino
