First real drive in GT-H

I haven't had my car 3 weeks yet, and have only been able to make time to drive it to work (2 miles one way), the shop that works on my cars (lesss than 15 miles), and to get lunch a couple times (2 miles). My wife only sat in the car for about 2 minutes at the dealership, and hasn't been in it since I bought it. Things have just been too busy to get any quality time in the car.

I usually work Saturday's, but had planned to take this one off to meet up with some friends that were getting together. I made the plans before I bought the car, so when I saw that the weather report called for 59 degrees and sunny I decided to cut my visit a little short so the wife and I could go for a drive afterward on Chuckanut drive. Once we got off the freeway, I put the top down for the first time and we drove Chuckanut northbound to Fairhaven. Then we put the top back up and drove I-5 back home. Total trip was about 150 miles, and went off without a hitch. The car drove great, and according to the info center we got 25mpg which I thought was pretty good - although I admit I have no clue what the rating on the car is or how accurate the info center is.

My wife snapped some pictures through the windows as we drove, and I thought I'd share.

First picture is an example of Chuckanut drive. It's not all like the picture, but there are areas with rocks on one side and a drop off to Puget Sound on the other.

Second picture was before we got to Chuckanut, it's on the way to my friends place in Arlington. If you look close you can see a small plane flying over the road before landing at the small airport. I'm pretty sure the mountain is Mt. Baker.

Third picture is back to Chuckanut.

Fourth picture was taken on the way back home. I saw something coming up behind me, and instantly knew what it was. It's an Ariel Atom! They don't even have a windshield, so both driver and passenger were wearing full face helmets. We only got a chance to snap a picture of the back end. I didn't think I'd ever see one of those on the road.

Last picture was taken in Fairhaven. I saw the Hertz sign, and had to take the picture. I love member GTH176's picture of his car in front of a Hertz, and knew I had to take this shot. I should have taken more time to line it up so my nose wasn't in shadow, but I think it's pretty cool anyway.

I love this car!

Tom, you're doing it right!! Driving and enjoying the car. Looking at it in the garage is OK but Shelbys are made to be driven, not hung on a wall or sit on a trailer. Have you noticed how fast the automatic shifts under full acceleration?? Or have you enjoyed that normally aspirated "sucking air" noise when you punch it ?? If you get the opportunity to go into an tunnel or a longer overpass, floor it and all those sounds are even more wonderful. enjoy, Larry

How about this for a perfect ending to the day. Before I locked up the house for the night I went and checked the mail, and found an envelope from Hertz! It's the original paperwork for the car. I had emailed Steve at Hertz, but hadn't received a reply. I figured he was on vacation or maybe wasn't sending paperwork out anymore, so it was a total surprise. :mail:
