Matts
The horsepower and hearing that supercharger is all that drew me in, the name is just a plus. Too bad I still can't afford one...

thewheelman
Yep, was shopping 03 Cobras when this one hit the streets. Didn't think I'd ever be able to afford one, didn't think the wife would go for one (I'm glad I married her!). Dream come true! (both wife and car!) cobrafan
No. I only wanted a Shelby. I probably would have ended up with a GT350 4 years later.
Sherri Leicht
No, I already had 2 Cobras and didn't really like the body style. But when Carroll Shelby put his name on it, that did it
kronus01
I have a 96 Mystic Cobra in the garage and I love it, I would have bought the 07 even if it was named Cobra too but the fact that it's a Shelby makes it a dream come true!

Son of GT
And if you think about the big picture for a moment, if the GT500 (FoMoCo owns "GT500") wasn't labeled a "Shelby GT500", we might not even be here talking about it because this site would still be called Stangs Unleashed, and it's quite likely we would be hanging out at the SVT owners website instead. Also, if you believe the press reports at the time, the car might not have come out with 500 H.P. because Carroll supposedly pushed Ford to make sure that a car with his name on it came out with 500 H.P. To paraphrase his comments back then, Carroll wanted to "flip off" the Germans who were smacking the Americans with their large H.P. cars at the time. Additionally, if Carroll and Amy did not re-establish a relationship with FoMoCo back in late 2003, odd's are good that the GT-H, the SGT, all of the other Shelby packages, and eventually the GT-350 might have never come to fruition too. Shelby might just only be a brand name of a great racer and a shrewd businessman, but it has also brought a decent group of like minded people together that might not have if it wasn't for his name being attached to the 500. FoMoCo hit a home run when they brought out the 2005 Mustang body style, and SVT and Carroll together made it a grand slam with the 2007-2011 GT500. brisk_tea
yep, the whole package is what drew me, not the name...
MY500SS
Hard to say because it was the name "Shelby" that got me looking.

Thanks for the info.I think your right i dont think SVT would have come out with a 500 HP mustang .I think they would have produce a good product, but not the car we have now. SVTSnake
Hello, would you have bought the Shelby GT500 if it was just called a cobra?Made by fords SVT. It is a Cobra made by SVT!!! Although Shelby may have given some "opinions" on what he wanted to see on a car with his name on it, it was all SVT on this Cobra. And yes, I would have still bought my 09 even if it didn't say Shelby, would have been alot cheaper too!!! And it would have still been parked in the garage. FiaCobra
When I saw the 2005 Mustang at the NY auto show for the 1st time, my jaw dropped. Right there I knew I wanted to get an "SE" mustang (Ex: Mach, Boss, SVT Cobra....) .....then came the 2006 NY Autoshow and the unveiling of the "SVT Shelby GT-500". That's when I knew that was the "SE" car for me......
