The Countdown to Retirement

Recommended Posts

I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel yet, but 2 months ago on my 49th Birthday I couldn't help but start the 5 year countdown in the back of my mind.
My goal to hit this date is on track and currently solid. I just hope the economy allows me to work at least 1000 hours a year so my pension can be activated. I'm looking forward to my 54th Birthday more than any other birthday. cool.gif

58 working months left.

Dear Mr Grabber,

I retired for the first time at 48, it took me three times for it to finally stick. You have to have the proper attitude for retirement. I have learned how to answer the "what do you do?" question with, "Nothing" and feel good about it.

I am glad to see I am not the only one struggling with this. I'll be 58 in October and am ready to pull the plug at the end of this year. The decision to retire is a scarey one. I asked my dad a couple of years ago awhen he was 79 how he made the decision to retire, he said glenn I just woke up one day and decided I didn't want to work anymore. He retired as a USAF Chief Mastersergeant.

Retirement scares me to death just thinking about it, but you have to think that one is better trying to retire when you can still enjoy life and some quality time with your family before you get to old and the natural aging process catches up with you.

Just my thoughts.. GG

I do not intend to ever retire. I enjoy what I do, and plan to work as long as I am physically and mentally able. Hopefully, my mind will stay sharp right up to the time when I keel over.

+1000 here! Love what I do... company does high profile construction projects across the country and there's no better feeling than looking back at the end of the day at what you help build! Keeps you productive and mentally alert.

Enjoying the work you do for a living is the key???????

Sometimes better than Retirement??????

My Retired Uncle once told me when I was thinking of my retirement age;

"Nephew, it is good not to wish your life away" .............
