Rear marker light replacement

Recommended Posts

Anyone know if there's a red replacement bulb available for the rear bumper marker light bulb? I was thinking of replacing the red lens with a smoke lens but I'd need a red bulb so the light wouldn't be white when the lights were on.

Any help/thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I bought red tinted bulbs on Ebay for my clear rear markers. They look great along with the clear front turn signals!

I'm not sure if your state follows the same rules, but in Texas they are illegal. You may not get a ticket but it might get you put on the curb.

Clear tail lamp lenses utilizing red bulbs which do not meet SAE standard J585e, (September 1977) are not in compliance with federal standards (NHTSA, 49 CFR 571.108).

good luck

Dwain,

Good point. I'm going with the smoke lenses with a colored bulb...hopefully it won't be as noticeable. But I'm keeping the originals just in case. Fortunately here it's just a "fixit" if anything at all, and usually not even that unless you fail the attitude test.

I ordered up the Red LED bulbs that replace the glass 194 bulbs. I have clear rear side markers and the red coated 194 bulbs eventually faded and became almost pink in color. . . . The red LEDs are always red and are great for either clear/red lenses.

Look for them on Stangmods.com - very reasonable price too!

Trevor,

Did you install your lower grill section yourself? Where did you order that?

Thanks,

John

John,

I purchased the Polished GT-H Lower Grille Insert from Shelby Performance Parts (Now moved to the Shelby Store)

Here is the link to the part on the Shelby Store: Lower Grille Insert

I was originally going to have Quantum Performance install the lower grille, brake duct bezels/driving lights . . . . but at that time, the lights/bezels were not available. I elected to simply install the lower grille myself at a later date.

The install was not hard at all, took about 2 hours just because I was trying to be careful to not scratch/damage anything. On the front bumper cover, the splitter is textered black plastic and if you scratch it - it's scratched and can not be fixed. A little bit of blue painters tape goes a LONG way to prevent scratches during installation. They suggest you use pop rivits to install the grille, many have used small bolts/nuts with washers instead (which is what I did). You just want to make sure that you get the galvanized ones(locking nuts) to prevent rusting.

My next project is to get the brake duct bezels/driving lights on order and get them installed.

Hope this helps! Keep us posted as you make your decisions about your Shelby!
