Have to speak up. I have seen many cars and most have this problem. The GT-H is 4 years old now. Still a fairly new car. The stripes Shelby put on the cars DONT HOLD UP!!!! They are not of good quality.

What kind of Shi@ is that. And to top it off They want a GRAND for a new set!

Also the Shelby GT stripes...Nothing but problems....

I love my car. But Shelby ought to offer a new set for a reasonable price to it's car owners. Like COST + shipping!!!!!

I hope other GT-H owners can jump in here and maybe SHELBY AMERICAN will hear us.

That's how I see it..........Philip 87

Just find a graphics shop with a good reputation and have them cut and install stripes for you, likely you'll get a better quality vinyl that way anyway.

Or, just have a shop paint them on. There is zero room for error with this vinyl detail, unlike paint. You should beable to find a good paint job for the two stripes for around $1,200 - $1,300. The side details are nearly as expensive unfortunately. There is also almost no warranty for these stripes, as I've found out. headscratch.gif

I take it that your car is out of warranty... if not, they're covered 3/36K. I just had a hood stripe replaced... under warranty.

Tried the graphics shop idea a while ago. Good luck matching the shade of gold. No stock color matched and we went through three or four different company's samples.

Run with the big dogs and expect to be bitten hard......

Try Mrfarmdog: here on Team Shelby. Does great graphics work.

The material used for the stripes on the GT-H's is no longer produced by the manufacturer and old stock is unavailable (I've called all over the country). The replacement material is difficult to work with and it is a darker shade of gold. Once Shelby runs out of their current stock, they will have to change material. So, IMO if you want original and Shelby still has original stock, a grand is a bargain.

BTW, I would not replace your stripes unless they are really bad. My replacement has been a huge hassle and very costly. The old stripes are VERY difficult to remove. They come off in small pieces and if you're lucky like me, they will pull paint off too. The first shop replace just my hood stripes with genuine stripes from Shelby Performance parts that I paid $$ for. The shop messed up the new stripes and the hood. In addition, the new stripes did not match the old weathered ones on the roof. So, I took it to another shop and they replaced all the top stripes and repaired the hood again. Unfortunately, I started my project when the mess with Shelby Perfomance Parts was going on and could not get new stripes from them. So, the shop was going to make them since I had the manufacturer and color code from the first set of Shelby hood stripes. That's when I found out about the discontinued and unavailable original material. So, we got the supposed identical replacement material. It is very difficult to work with and in direct sunlight (like at a car show), the color is not even close. Of course, the color difference is not noticeable inside, so I didn't notice until the striping was done. Currently, I am trying to get side stripes made in the new material so they match, but that is proving difficult!!

I gave up on the whole vinyl stripe thing and have scheduled my GT-H to go on March 23 and have the whole car repainted and all the strips painted on. Cant wait to see it when its done. I did find some of GT-H gold stripes for sale on ebay.

Stripes on ebay

A lot of sales "puffery" in that auction but more important it is not a complete decal kit. They are selling just the over the top racing stripes.

The stripes on the Hertz convertible were replaced by Hertz after they faded and before they sell the car to the public. Wrong color and quality. I purchased a set from the Ebay guy, says they are a CORRECT MATCH and are a FULL SET. they even give you extra material for mess ups. they are ment for a coupe, so I have around 3 feet extra (the roof portion).

Sorry Steve, but they do include the full set, minus the side stripes.

I guess we have a difference of opinion on what a "full set" means. A full set to me means a complete set of decals including the side stripes. That's all I was pointing out, that the ebay kit is not complete to re-do the entire car.

I ordered a set from this guy off ebay, and the color was incorrect. I told him and his reply was they were "Hertz like". I mentioned that I was not happy and the possibility

of neg feedback, his reply to this was that he would sue me. I contacted a local installer who matched the brand of vinyl and installed like OEM.

Definely a lot of sales "puffery". They do sell the side stripes, but the spacing is off a little and the width of the narrow stripes are not an exact match to the originals. Also, the color is off because they can no longer get the discontinued original material - they were one of the places I called.

Go to itspaint.com and give them the color code for the gold. It's painted vinyl.

Gary

That's what I've heard too. Something to the effect that they start with clear vinyl, then spray the gold on followed by a clear coat. If you could get that gold paint code, you could probably get more made. But for all of that trouble, you might as well paint them on the car.

So what is the options for new stripes? Seems to me that painting may be only option as vinyl does not match. Am I correct?

-- Pay the $$$ to Shelby for new top stripes if they still have stock using the old material.

-- Paint the top stripes to match the vinyl side stripes.

-- Replace the top and side stripes with new vinyl.

-- Live with the mismatch between the two.

Just a couple of thoughts on the GTH stripes. The concerns about the stripes have been pretty well discussed on the forum previously. Having worked for Hertz for 25 years and watching how the GTHs were washed / maintained / and treated by Hertz customers, I can assure you the stripe failure is far more than a defective product. Hertz uses an industrial tire cleaner applied by a very brisk brush. When the cars came in very dirty, the garageman ( car cleaners) would often use the tire cleaner on the PAINTED SURFACES of the car to save time. Result, almost instantly dulled stripes and often dulled paint that required a buffing. In addition the front and rear bumper facia stripes were damaged torn by Hertz employees "bumpering" the cars when space was tight on the lot. This is especially true in stated that had the front license plate which would tear into the rear stripe on the next car in line. I can't tell you how many times I witnessed Hertz customers drag their luggage over the rear bumper cover, or balance their suitcase on the bumper, lay them on the trunk, or simply toss their belongings on the roof of the car. It got so bad that Hertz quit replacing the bumper cover stripes on many of the 2007 convertibles. Vinyl stripes just don't hold up to much abuse. I also have a 2007 SGT which was a leftover car at Greenway Ford in Orlando. Brand new, but set outside for 8 months before I bought it. Stripes were ruined already, so I just had them painted on. I think you will find that many Shelby Forum members still have the original stripes, which while fragile, will hold up if extra care is given in maintaining them. I believe that once you re-stripe your GTH you will be pleased with how long they will last, or if you plan on driving the car daily (or the car will sit outside) then I would paint the stripes. My SGT is a daily driver, sits outside, and after 18,000 miles are still perfect. Hope this information is helpful to you. regards, Larry Miller

Are you looking for the complete kit or do you just need a certain piece? I had to order a set a few years ago to fix a couple of cars!

I pieces from one set to fix TWO cars!

Hmmm, so he wants to threaten ebay buyers? Perhaps Shelby Licensing should take a look at him. Need a license to repop a Shelby trademarked item.

GTh007, I agree with your post and well said. The EBAY stripes are a great option for the price, even if they dont match 100%. I guess the key is to have the correct color code. maybe SAI can sell stripe samples or provide color codes. I went with the EBAY guy, mainly because the stripes were replaced by Hertz or the dealer and were not even alligned properly and torn. Cant complain since its a rental and got a great deal. I applied the new stripes and the car looks 100% better to me. I would like the correct color code or sample, so in the future I can paint them on.

P.S: I went to the Shelby site in the start of this process, but I cant find ANY STRIPES for sale. They used to be there, but after the merger, they are gone.

Quick sem-off topic question. Why aren't the GT500's having the same issue? :headscratch:

Is it eventual with us, or what... :angry2:

:hysterical:

ok, no one answered your question.....

Ford built and striped all GT500s at the AAI Plant in Michigan..

All GTHs were striped at the Shelby facility in Las Vegas when they were converted from Mustang GTs to Shelby GTHs.

Different Stripes..different applicator.

If you look in this thread, you will find the color code which came out about as close as you can get. Another member had a Dupont representative run a full spectrum analyser on his stripes and this is what they came up with:

Dupont code for the gold paint: 409383

Also, the lettering is:

Lettering font information: Myriad bold italic 96 point.

If you order the side stripes from that guy on e-bay, the lettering is all totally wrong.

P.S. I think Shelby is fine with chargine what they do. Part of that is to keep cloning down with anybody using actual parts, including the stripes. Yes, they can be duplicated, but if you want them exact and original, you have to pay. I felt the better longest lasting alternative was paint. I'm not planning on selling in my life time and wanted the car to always look great.

Hi MM. Thanks alot. My stripes I can live with as they are.I do not want to paint them on either. My frustration stems from the stripes being so stained here and there. These cars are young and one would think they would hold up a lot better than they are. My call to Shelby initially was simply that they will cost me $800 for over the top stripes and $1000 for the whole kit. WOW!!! The GT-H cars stripes are not covered under warranty.....so I was told.

I only wanted to replace the stripes on the front bumper. Appreciate your response as well as other TS members......Thanks....Philip

I agree. I had mine painted on and I am very happy. They look better than they ever did.
